SWGZone eGPU sounds interesting but they should’ve better compatible GPUs. I have one from Razor and I can use most cards on it, as long as the power supply it’s enough (and makes sense for the TB3 bandwidth). Yes, it’s not portable. But the magic is to use a portable laptop and at the end of the day, plug in a cable and I have my RTX connected to an external monitor pumping the power. I don’t need it to be portable

Apple buyers, having asked many, say they have no idea what hardware specs they have, or even what they (the specs) mean. They don't really care to know either. They see an Apple logo, and that's all they need to know. Apple isn't a tech company. It's a tech brand. They sell their logo. I have total respect for the roots and history of Apple, but that stopped when their anti-consumer practices and nonsensical decisions began.

A lot of the comparisons are heavily based on videography, photography, 3d rendering and similar workflows. I think it would be really helpful to a lot of people if you could compare more Engineering related applications on Mac and PC. For Eg Solidworks, Physics Simulations using softwares like Ansys, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Training AI Models, Speed tests for linux based softwares, MATLAB simulations, and so on. Using both Macs and Windows, I would say that Mac's RAM is at least 50% more efficient, so 8GB is equivalent to 12GB on Windows for day-to-day tasks, that is obviously not for RAM-intensive pro apps, which you would never buy a laptop with just 8GB of RAM.

So, a 512GB machine has an extra 4GB of RAM at its disposal without putting any wear on the SSD. That already equates to 12 GB of fast RAM. Then Apple uses compression; I have seen 3.5GB of compressed RAM on my Mac. Check out the app's RAM usage on Mac -vs. Windows: it is lower in many cases, which helps free up RAM. No matter how good the M3 processors are, the biggest problem with Macs is their "Apple Tax" on SSD and RAM. If I spend around $1500 - $2000 for a good laptop, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD are basic requirement. It's useless even if you got blazing speed but you are out of storage or memory. Right now, processing photos / videos are eating up more storage and memory As a 16" Intel Macbook User, I am seriously considering returning to Windows after all.

I selected the AMD version as it is more power power efficient and has powerful integrated graphics in addition to the RTX. Overall the AMD 7840HS IMHO is comparable to the M1 PRO which I also own. Unless you need to run some heavy games, you do not need to lug around the heavy 230W AC adapter, I run fine on a light 65W USB-C power adapter. Also note that the LEGION comes with 8GB dedicated video memory in addition to system memory, thus 32GB is 32GB+8GB. Unified memory is in my opinion a hype when it comes to efficient sharing between system and graphics. Also you should add RAM in the second slot of the LEGION, it costs virtually nothing (I paid $1 (!) through an eCoupon) and will double your memory bandwidth. Should help on those export times. That said I prefer MAC OS over Windows11 (Like windows 7 though) and the battery life on the Mac is just fantastic. Now if only Apple would have done something on their RAM/SSD pricing, it is just crazy. Just ran Geekbench 6 on battery, no fans spinning, single core score=2265 (Yeah the M3 is almost 50% faster on battery power)

As far as I'm aware, no. Time Machine backs up what's known as an "Image" which basically is a complete snapshot of your system, INCLUDING Mac OS X. It's impossible to separate the Mac OS X from the rest of the software. Because PC's cannot use Mac OS X, the PC would be unable to use the Time Machine Image. Your best bet would be to back up individual files you use such as documents, etc. Then you can install the programs you need on the Windows system and import those individual documents you backed up. Yes, this is more work, but it's typically a one-time thing unless you have problems in the future that require you in reinstall Windows.

Which worked in Windows laptops until the Apple Silicon chips came out for Mac. The problem is those giant "Engines" in Windows laptops produce so much heat that they have to slow themselves down to prevent problems. This is why some i7 laptops will end up beating out i9 laptops of the same generation during an extended workload. Apple solved this by making Apple Silicon, which is for all intents and purposes a mobile processor on steroids. Since Apple Silicon cpu's run at a much lower power level, they also produce much less heat and therefore don't have to throttle themselves. Since these "Mobile" cpu's are also extremely powerful on top of running cool, they in many cases beat out i9's over extended usage. I'm eagerly waiting for the release of the snapdragon ARM processors to compete with this on the Windows side.

I think by leaving it plugging he doesn't mean letting it sit in one place plugged in. For example, I use my laptop at home mostly plugged in, when in class I will use it plugged in whenever possible if the class is over 4 hrs and if it's just a short ~2-4 hrs class that day I will just not bring the charger and use it just from the battery. So I still use it basically plugged in most of the time, but the portability of the laptop is still important. As for battery life, mine could certainly go 7-8 hours for video playback, but since I find that I can use it plugged in most of the time, I limit the battery to 60% to maximize battery health and always use it plugged in whenever possible.

Embarking on a thought-provoking experiment, I orchestrated a compelling competition between two formidable operating systems, namely macOS Ventura and openSUSE Tumbleweed. To ensure an equitable playing field, the battleground was set on desktop systems of identical power, creating an environment conducive to a comprehensive and unbiased assessment of their respective capabilities. The goal was clear: to delve into the intricacies of their performance across a diverse array of tasks, spanning routine computing endeavors to more demanding and resource-intensive workflows. As the contest unfolded, a discernible pattern emerged, ultimately culminating in openSUSE Tumbleweed claiming victory. Notably, the open-source operating system demonstrated a nuanced edge, operating with a perceptible speed and efficiency advantage over its macOS counterpart. This unexpected outcome sparked a deeper inquiry into the contributing factors that elevated openSUSE's performance during the competition.

The purpose of this video is not to compare features between them; it's intended to assess the raw performance you get for every dollar spent. In this video, we are comparing a $1800 laptop (just checked the price) with a $2700 MacBook Pro that doesn't even have the specs of its counterpart. We already know silicon chips are more power-efficient, allowing for better performance when unplugged. However, that doesn't justify Apple ripping off the world.

Binned is when a chipset has lower cores than the designed amount. The 3nm process has low yields meaning that many chipsets have cores that do not pass the testing process. A fully spec'd out Mac would cost like $4500 to a similarly spec'd out windows pc to the Mac being like.... $2500. Like he Mentioned... the second you start upgrading a Mac they gouge the hell out of the customer. And I'm a Mac user. That said.... I'm in the market to update/ upgrade from my decade+ old iMac. The reason there's a question on which to go with..... about 20 years ago I was a pc user exclusively. I had NOTHING but issues. The security on pcs was atrocious, IMO, back then. I got a MacBook... had it for about 5 years before the track pad wore out. It still worked... so long as you had a mouse. I got an iMac desktop. In the entire time I've used a Mac I've had ZERO issues with it. My problem now is due to my iMac being nearly 15 years old I can no longer update to the current ios.... and haven't been able to for years. But now.... I can't update Google Chrome. So I'm stuck with safari. Which isn't terrible. But I'm using this as an excuse to upgrade/ update my setup. The iMac actually works just fine.... despite being like 13 years old. It's just.... outdated. I haven't update the ios in like 5 years, again, because it says I can't. I'm sure there's a workaround.... or I just have to BUY the new ios. And I'm not doing that. And there lies the problem. Mac is definitely no longer the cutting edge of innovation. Their products are about as dull looking as it gets. None of their computers to my knowledge have even the most basic features like a touch screen. They'll never make a 2- in-1 laptop because it'll eat into their iPad market. Old apple would say fuck it... and just keep adding modern features to the MacBook to make it more in line with competition at least as far as features go. I mean they made the iPhone which literally shut down their iPod market. They didn't care. They'll never kill or even just put a dent in their iPad market though. Because... $$$. As such.... Mac computers are easily the least innovative out there. I mean my iMac is 13-14 years old. Up until the RECENT redesign of iMacs.... my 13-14 year old iMac desktop looked pretty much identical to an iMac from 2020 or 2021. Imacs used to change their design CONSTANTLY in the 90s. They were... fun.... and awesome computers. Now.... they look like the most boring guy in the room. That said...... with a Mac you know... or at least I know - I'm getting insane reliability. In about 20 years of using a MacBook or iMac I've had ZERO issues with any Apple offering. It's hard to put a price tag on that peace of mind. So the dilemma is..... do I buy the better spec'd waaaaay cooler and innovative and feature packed windows pc laptop...... or just buy the "safe".... yet boring as fuck macbook.... for at best a similar price of not MORE than said windows laptop. That said... as time goes by I find myself just using my phone for emails. I have a work laptop (windows) the company I work for provides me. I'd pretty much only be using a personal pc/ laptop for... surfing the internet.... streaming content.... and the occasional office software functions. Unlike what most KZread reviewers if tech think I feel like I'm in the... I don't know... 80% of the population who isn't in some video/picture editing job industry or a KZreadr. So the typical gripes KZread reviews have regarding video and photo editing capabilities I feel like apply to few users. At the very least FAR fewer than they realize. With how much phones can do nowadays and the ability to just put it in your pocket....... I almost question if I even really NEED a PC anymore to be honest. I feel like I can't be alone on that. I mean if you don't game or do any video/photo editing for your job.... or any architecture work..... does one really even "need" a laptop anymore? I feel like desktops in their traditional format are a dying breed for this very reason.... if not already dead. I mean most people "need" a monitor and a "desktop setup"...... to just plug their laptop to it and use it as a desktop. So there's really little need for an actual desktop computer anymore outside of commercial office use. Because of all this...... I feel like I'll probably wind up going with just the BASE 15" MacBook air. I think I can snag one for $1000. Buuuuuut.... even at that fairly reasonable price.... there's so many intriguing windows laptops out there.... for CHEAPER. It all comes down to that peace of mind I was talking about and what price tag do you put on that? Is the peace of mind really worth the $200-300 premium I'd still be paying for a BASE level MacBook air? As time goes on..... I question that... and actually lean towards - no. It's not worth that premium markup. I say that now but if I go windows and in like 3 years I'm cussing up a storm trying to fix my laptop..... my tune will change. So.... I don't know, haha.

Enabled windows policy "processor energy performance preference" and set it to 50% 2. via nvidiainspector created bat file with voltage offset for gpu. Now it run at 90%+ of power and makes low heat. 3. throttlestop app configured processor. Now without +- load on system coolers are off. If i play dota2 - cooling system on minumum speed level. (sometimes turns off). If i play withcer 3 at near maximum (no rtx etc), gpu loaded 99%+. There is no NOISE i can hear and temps are under 75. but in feature i dont want to tune my laptop + i dont want to fight vs shitty windows 11. WE PAY MONEY and they are selling trash devices . sry for my english.

The issue is a bit complex than just a fan noise. The situation we are enountering indicates thats there is no optimization and coordination between operating system creators, processor manufactorers and pc brands. The situation means that no party is caring about the last product. The product we get at the end of the cycle. Each party is just focusing their part and not care entire product. Without optimization activities we will continue to get low quality products. @@PixelatedWolf2077

Great video. Confirms a lot of my beliefs. I was recently in the market for a used laptop that was not "old", but didn't need to be the latest either. I decided around 3 years old seemed reasonable to update from my 10 year old Dell Latitude, which amazingly still worked really well with Windows 10 for general needs even with 8 gigs of ram. I wanted the new laptop to be able to do some video editing, and most importantly handle my VST software synths for my bands. I noticed most decent video editors needed a newer Intel processor than my old i7 just to meet minimum requirements, even though mine was duo core and 3 ghz. While my older VST synths worked fine, some of the newer ones I want to run could certainly use more ram if I'd like to have one rack opened with all songs ready quickly my bands play, and the ability to have large samples loaded. And a couple even needed a newer processor, but almost none. I figured I'd compare with an M1 Macbook because it was so raved about when it came out, and that I'd compare to a similar aged Windows laptop. And as you said, PC laptops loose their value quickly. So that means.......you can get a fantastic deal on a not so old, but decent PC laptop! I went with a newer Dell Latitude that is exactly 3 years old (warranty runs out end of this month). It has a 10th gen i-7 2.6 ghz and 6 cores. It was upgraded to 32 gigs of ram, and a 2TB hard drive. But here's the real kicker.....I paid roughly.... half the cost of an averaged priced used M1 Macbook with a mere 8gb ram & 256gb hard drive! My PC has 4 times the ram and 8 times the storage. And while I don't doubt that the M1 processor has more CPU power, and a better GPU than my Nvidia GX250 with 2gb ram, I still think my PC will be able to run most software I care about just fine and run some half decent video editing software. It also has a Thunderbolt 3 port and I might be able to run an eGPU such as the SGWZone you mention for faster video rendering and games. And for travel, I'm not worried about high end games, video editing or battery life. I'll be using this plugged in 95% of the time. After 2-3 years many companies dump what were once, expensive business grade laptops. Their IT departments get them for free because they go through the work to wipe the drives, and they turn around and sell them very cheaply, often with upgrades. SCORE! I also prefer Windows because......I have a lot of software already and I don't have to re-purchase it all again. Microsoft is also WAY BETTER at "valuing" compatibility of older software and hardware than Apple is. I still use a lot of software that is over 20 years old, and I can still run it just fine. I also setup my drive to boot Windows 10 & Windows 11 so I can tryout Windows 11, and have it if anything in the future requires it or runs better on it. I also bought a used 512gb drive to keep as a spare in case I got a virus or the OS crashed or something. I popped it in and running currently. And if I forgot to backup my files, I could connect the drive to a USB adapter and copy my files over. Try that on a Mac! The drives & ram are non-removable. If your system crashes and you didn't backup.....your cooked!

Saying Resolve is better is exceptionally subjective without additional context. Most editors find Resolve faster at WHAT? Exports is what you meant to say but 98% of an editor’s time is spent on the actual editing; and Final Cut has the magnetic timeline which is objectively faster for many workflows

Pretty much everything was faster on Windows for me, from export to timeline performance, on my Windows 11 desktop compared to the M2 Max I had (and send back). It's a 5950x with a 2080Ti and 64gb of RAM, so somewhat old hardware. I sort of drank the kool-aid on how "superior" Apple Silicon was, and discovered it's really only better on battery. Macs also tend to stay relevant longer too, I've owned several PC's - still use a custom build for my main system, but with laptops, a PC will become little more than a paper weight within a few years, where you really can count on great performance with your mac for at least 5 years as long as you buy into it up front and don't grab the base model. Even then the base model will hold out longer vs the equivalent windows PC if you don't memory swap it into an early death. It all depends on what you need it for though, if you don't have or want to spend the money PC laptops are great short term devices that will get you everything you need. If you need something for creative work or work in general, a mac will give you more performance for your money over a longer period of time.

Windows laptops don’t hold up as well in general, both the os slowdowns and the hardware reliability. In the Desktop world a Pc with upgrades will last longer, but even then once you need a new motherboard and graphics card you literally are paying the same price for one component as the entire new Mac, so even there its only cheaper if you don’t want to upgrade as often.
