Baptism in water is a public profession that you are going down with your unclean spirit and washing it clean. True Baptism is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and what a awesome gift he gave us!

Hmm, yes. I was concerned with the theology of this song, too. We are not saved by Baptism - that's something the Anglo-Catholic church believes and is actually a false gospel. Being as they Christen babies (they call it baptism, but it clearly isn't) they believe that is the point of their salvation. Considering Matt Maher is a Catholic (I think?)...

He's talking about being washed by the blood of Jesus and having his sins burned up in the fire. Jesus is living water, therefore he has been cleansed and forever changed. You're thinking of literal submersion, which is a public profession of faith. Mac and Matt are speaking from a deep sense and referring to the circumcision of the heart, baptized by the Holy Spirit. Listen to the song more closely. ❤️👍

Great song, really appreciate this. As Christians, following Jesus, we should do what the Lord has said. He was pretty blunt and straight forward. Mark 16:16 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. You can also see that in Matthew. We need to remember that Jesus, Himself, was baptized and He is our example. He also taught baptism was required. John 3:5-7 5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ Here He was speaking to Nicodemus and explaining that baptism was both a physical and spiritual thing. It is a public outward sign, but it also initiates inward, spiritual change. It is where the blood of Christ washes away our sins. Titus 3:5 tells us this. If you won't believe anyone else, please trust and believe in Jesus, our Lord and Savior. One additional note, every conversion in Acts is accompanied by baptism. The apostles followed Jesus' teaching.
