🎀 Ok unpopular opinion here. I was NEVER a fan of MAC painpots personally. They always just felt very heavy for me when I used them as a eyeshadow base. I’ve been using the elf putty shadow bases for a few weeks and I’m already big fan.For $5 I mean, it’s a really good eye primer.

This was an excellent review allura...thank u so much! I clicked so fast because I just bought my 1st paint pot about a month ago and I love what it does for my shadows....I dropped all my other eye primers because I really like it. Some people say it dries out their lids but I dont find that happens for me. I dont set the primer with powder I just leave it tacky and the result has been the best. I do all colorful looks...I dont wear neutrals at all as far as brown eyeshadow of any kind lol...so the mac blanks out the color of my skin while providing a tacky base for maximum vibrancy and color payoff in my opinion. So this is good to hear about the elf being a good alternative and for the price u just cant beat it. I'll definitely pick some up. Would u ever consider reviewing the p.Louise base eye primer? I really trust your opinion and would love to hear your thoughts on it. There's a patting motion you're supposed to use vs the normal just blending it in supposedly but idk...thank you❣

I haven't been able to find a light enough MAC Paint Pot. I have very light yellow skin. Excited that try the ELF one 💜

I have the elf eye putty primer! I have found that it is easier to apply when you use a flat eyeliner brush, or maybe any flat brush would work. I did put a good amount of product on the brush so the primer just glided over my eyes. So far I love it!

I appreciate that you do a real regular everyday makeup look as opposed to a pure glam cake face as you review products. Im capable of glam but really don't go that hard on a daily basis so I thank you for showing what products would look like without having a complete beat.

I kind of wish some would do darker colors to see how noticeable the wear is for those that do wear bright, or darker shadows typically

I tried the ELF it was just so dry. I had such a hard time trying to get it on my crepey hooded lids. The revolution pot eye primer is much creamier. I was bummed because I love the elf putty primer for the face.

Guys, Try Elf reg putty primer (the one for face) it says it can be used as a Eye primer also and many really like it.

@@sassyfras4085 Thanks! I was having the same issue but am going to try it again (it may have been user error, lol, it's been awhile and last I wore makeup primer didn't exist). If I'm still having trouble I will definitely try your suggestion

The one that I received was semi dried out and I bought it like a month after it came out, I recently was able to fix it by adding a couple drops of Glycerin mixing it up very well and then leaving it overnight afterwards the texture was perfect and it still drys down.

Have you tried the nyx paint pot? I got the pearl on by mistake but it worked great. I hate the texture of it tho so I am hoping the white matte will be better...but it worked on my oily hooded lids. I might try this one if I don't like the matte one

It would be interesting to see swatches on a white paper.

I've never used eyeshadow primer, only concealer occasionally but I like the idea of these potted primers. I may try the Elf one and maybe also bite the bullet and buy an actual face primer bc I've only ever used the Nivea post shave balm

When I changed my makeup buying habits a few years ago to being completely cruelty free and mostly vegan, the biggest issue I had was eye primer because I used to swear by the Mac paintpot. Once I'd used my last one up I struggled, I've got extremely oily lids and I tried just about every cruelty free eye primer out there, urban decay primer potion in Eden is the runner up but it's still not holding up like my paintpot used to. Thank you for this detailed and in depth review! I've decided to ordered some of these and give them a go, I'm excited to see if they work for me like the paintpots did, fingers crossed 🤞

Did you like the elf one? If not, I’d recommend the essence one. It comes in a tube and it’s pastel pink. I only use CF products too and struggle with oily eyelids (on top of having hooded eyes) and I’ve found that this one works well for me. It doesn’t crease on me and lasts a long time, the problem is that it dries too fast and it doesn’t intensify the color of some eyeshadows. If you want a primer with intense color as the paint pots then that would be another problem with the essence one :(

I was hoping that this review was for Mac shade 'painterly' because, I can never find Mac painterly, at a normal price!! It's always sold out and even though, I can afford 50 euro on Amazon UK for it, I refuse to be ripped off! That's why I'm here and I usually hate dupes but I only wanted this Mac painterly, as a base so it's not worth paying over twice the price plus I hate greedy people too! Thank you for the review nonetheless and I may still buy those ELF ones. I just subscribed. I am LOVING the elf one!! Omg.

I don’t enjoy MAC paint pot even tho I have oily eyelid I still find it super drying and almost flaky. My ultimate eyeprimer is def UDPP. If I apply any concealer and powder it, it will stay perfectly for at least 8 hours. Some professional MUA don’t suggest put powder on eyelid before eyeshadow but I just have to or I crease.

I felt the texture and intensity of the elf one was better, however the creasing of the elf putty was much worse. I feel like it's a good deal for the price but the creasing is not the best thing for dry fine lines. I'd have to use a filling primer

I dunno. After years I finally tried MAC paint pot but it definitely creases and the shadow fades on me. Doesn’t matter the brand. My eyelids are so oily, and I even put down Milani primer first which helps. But I wish I knew what I could do. I like a lot of blacks, brick reds, greens, over neutrals. Tough. Sometimes liquid eyeshadow works as a base but have not tried drugstore versions yet - just stila because it was at T.J.MAXX 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Mac pots are way too drying for me so I guess the Elf ones will be too. The Maybelline Color Tattoo 'Urbanite' (more similar to Mac's 'Painterly') has worked the best so far for me but another commentor mentioned the Revolution pot which I will try next. I suppose something could be added to any of them to make them creamier. Obviously Squalene for the Elf since that is what is already in the ingredients.

I bought the elf eye primer, it’s SO stiff !!! Don’t waste your money, just get the MAC

You’re not supposed to set the primer. It’s supposed to be tacky to hold the shadow

Sure, if you're just applying it to the lid, but not if you're trying to smoothly blend over it through the crease. "Tacky" is not a great base to blend over. But, you do you, if that's what you like!
