Mac Music Production - M1, M2, M3 CPU What To Pick?

The CPUS from Apple can be confusing. I will try to explain how this relates to music production on Macs.

    Appreciate the video ❤. Also "ready to be confused?" At the start had me laughing so hard 😂. I've been very confused between, M1 pro, M2 pro, or M3 pro. All models with at least 16Gb RAM. The problem is every youtuber says different thing. Some says best laptop for music production is M3 Pro. Some says M3 Pro is weak, go for M1 pro... then you check M2 pro you can see it can get the same as M1 pro if you went with 12 cores, as you can get 8 performance cores on the M2 pro.. It's very confusing like.. Would appreciate the help on this. Thanks a lot! And you're looking great Bjornar, keep up the informative videos ❤

    I actually bought the M3 Max because of low fan noise both at home and in live performances (I sometimes do pretty silent music). I only work on low battery mode to keep them off and haven't heard them a single time until now even when doing intense audio processing stuff in Ableton! The descision was also influenced by your videos, so thanks for your youtube work here!

    Yes the Mac fan curves are optmized for silence. Glad my videos helped!

    Hey Bjonar, thanks for making these videos. I’ve been researching whether to upgrade from my MBP M1 Pro / 16 ram for Pro Tools because sometimes it gets bogged down with high track counts and plugins. Your insight on performance cores was very helpful. Thanks again!

    Hi, I am stuck between a Mac studio and a Mackbook Pro. One thing that puts me off the macbook pros is the fan noise (I had an intel i7 that made lots of fan noise). Do the newer Mseries macbooks suffer from loud fan noise?

  • @bjornark

    @bjornark

    If you stress the system hard for a long time it will turn on the fans. However the M series is on a completly other level in terms of performance. So it all depends on your workflow.

    Hi Bjornar, you've been releasing your own music online for a while. Is it possible for you to make a video on how to release music, like making them available on Spotify/ Apple music? What are the dos and donts and what should we bare in mind? I am inspired by you and I really want to try to upload my music to streaming platforms 🙏🏼🙏🏼

    It is straightforward- cd baby ditto and many others out there provide this service - some are one time fee some are monthly or yearly. Once you that you claim your artist name with the platforms like iTunes Spotify etc… hope this helps and maybe the channel owner will create a video step by step. Cheers

    Hi! I’ve got an Intel i5 HP and I’m thinking about buying a MacBook (M3). I’d like to start using some musical software such as Ableton or Logic Pro. Do u think that a 256gb and 8gb is enough? Would you buy at least 16gb of RAM instead? I’m thinking about buying a M3 with 16gb, 256gb and an external hard drive. Tell me please your thoughts! Thanks!

    @leonelpaparotto - I'll add this before Bjornar gives his full reply - he has a Ryzen 9 7950X AMD system, self built. If you sub to his channel and then go to the video section, if you search "PC" or "Ryzen", or even just scroll down the vids you'll see lots of comparisons between his PC and the Apple gear in Ableton!! ;)

    The only thing that annoys me about windows laptops are the fan noise. I have a decent laptop, but once you stress it the fans kick in like crazy at times. Oh well.

    I can guarantee that there is nothing music production wise that can’t be done on M2 pro 12 core chip. There’s no point in spending more money, 8 performance cores (4 efficiency) with 16gb ram and 1Tb ssd is a perfect music production laptop in my opinion.

    I would probably get the 11-Core CPU, 14-Core GPU, 18GB Unified Memory, 512GB SSD Storage instead. You will get 1 more performance core. And 2 more efficiency cores.
