Mabula Lodge, a gem close to Bela Bela where you can see the big 5 without breaking the bank.

We spent a timeshare week at Mabule Lodge recently, our third visit there over a long time frame of about 33 years. Lots has changed since our last visit about 15 years ago but lots has stayed the same. At the time of our previous visit they had the big five, now they have the big seven, having introduced wild dog and cheetah during the last fifteen years. We managed to see five of the big seven in three game drives, which is all that we could justify paying for. Fifteen years ago your week included a number of game drives, now you have to pay for everything and it adds up very quickly. The accommodation is first class and the roads in good condition in between camps. There are three camps and the main lodge, which has an hotel. The main lodge is awesome with lovely gardens. During our previous visit we could still walk around between camps on foot and the camp were not fenced. Now there are fences around the camps and you are not even allowed to walk around inside the camp, they prefer that you drive around, it is wild out there. We had all kinds of animals around our accommodation, njala, kudu, warthogs, bushpigs, monkeys, etc.
