As that person says, it's not that costly as every day 400$ in LA. It depends on what lifestyle you lead. Daily food expense max 30$ if you every day outside, if you cook, then monthly 600$) and rental 2000$ max per month (you can share with other room mates then you can end up 500$ or less) and commute and other expenses 250$, so total per month on an average 3500$ is enough i.e. 120$ per day, that's it.
