I was a student of Wen Xu and Gerald Sharp both who studied directly with Ma Yueh Liang. The form is exactly as you see it here. Every movement has multiple martial and health applications. Master Ma is about 90 here.

You were clearly taught well. My own teacher had a bit of a reputation for high-level technique, and adored, and was adored by Ma Sifu. My understanding is that Ma and his colleagues came from a very special generation that benefited from great masters of the prior generation coming together to research and exchange information, which allowed they and their students to continue advancing the arts for the subsequent generations. 🙏🙏🙏

So, why are we in the west not ensuring that our senior citizens remain as agile as this great master instead of shoving our elders into nursing homes to await their death?

Mostly true, but only because our generation makes a lot of excuses about having no time. But I still think it's possible for a few of us to get there, assuming we can eliminate distraction and train assiduously our entire lives.

That is going to be difficult to complete as one flow, when I have the coordination to accomplish each of the individual maneuvers. I think in the middle, the master was perhaps delivering ad hoc a bit.

@@mongolchiuud8931Have you ever seen any Chen style master can release the force (发放) like Yang or Wu style, all Chen style master do is just a qinna(joint lock) or shuai jiao(wrestling) because They don't have real internal power like Yang or Wu style. Even though Yang Luchan is Chan Changxing's student but who is Chen Channgxing's teacher still a clue . But what we know is Yang family members never mention about Chen Wangting(Chen style ancestor) they all said that Taiji is from Zhang Sanfeng

I have learned Chen style in Beijing and I have been to Chen Jiagou for study Taijiquan, so I can make sure that chen style has no internal power like Yang or Wu Style.

Really? in terms of being able to stand on one leg balance, or "balance" in the Tai Chi sense. I see balance of upper and lower, forwards and backwards, left and right, up and down, inner and outer... very balanced in mine and many knowledgeable practitioners' opinions.

  • @itinerantpoet1341

@Tai Chi Wonders Balance typically declines over 80, even for the very greatest. But what I tend to see on youtube is young, strong "masters" who wobble on one leg. You can bet that Ma Sifu was as rock solid as a Shaolin monk or Wudang priest when he was young in middle age. I'm extraordinarily impressed with Ma Sifu's ability to still do those kicks over 90, and shift to the next movement without even a wobble!

Seconding Tai Chi Wonders. Just look at what this great master does at 1:26. Very few young practitioners can do that. It took me more than a decade of faithful practice, and I still have to do it pretty much every day if I want to keep it!

@@mrenormouscroc Understood, and it says a lot that you acknowledge that. (I sometimes have to make a few mea culpas too-it's social media;) imho, a big blindspot for American Yang stylists is they ignore the Yang that came down from Li Yu Lin, who was a top disciple of Sun Lutang, in addition to Song Wei-I, Li Jinglin, and integrated traditional Wudang into tai chi and tai chi sword. I have the greatest respect for Cheng Manching-without him and his students, I probably never would have come to these arts, but if you like this Wu, you need to expand your horizons, and also seek what comes from Ma's friends and colleagues: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a2aBtsGJY7zQn7A.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/rJ2fyNF_Y5zWYcY.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZZNhlquwac29opc.html These great masters were exchanging information, which is why Ma and Ma's generation were so good. (Ma's sword was also similarly celebrated.) And if you want to have that flow like Ma and that waist technique, which albeit can be hard to see at such an advanced age b/c it's become so deeply internalized, you want to check out forms like this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a6dpo7qnaaS7hdI.html Don't get locked into one system or school. These were people who admired Ma, and were admired by him, because there are very few in this class in any generation. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dalnu8yBeaXcnrQ.html My tai chi would be nothing special without all of these great masters, including Prof Cheng, who introduced tai chi to the west and produced many great students. Cheng started late, but was a great scholar and kept improving his whole life: kzread.info/dash/bejne/c3uupKuNhrS8dag.html vs: kzread.info/dash/bejne/g2yN3KOFk6qzpbQ.html But there's more than Cheng for tai chi, and if you're truly serious about something like sword, you need to go beyond tai chi and integrate traditional wudang: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p6akuLx8ac62mNI.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/pZiAx81_ZNDXqrA.html Because Prof. Cheng was not famous for sword, not in these circles, but Ma and Li were considered the best of the best in their generation.
