M203 Grenade Launcher

Ойын-сауық

The guys from US PALM brought us some 40mm grenade launchers that we couldn't resist firing. This is from an episode of TAC-TV Season 1. In Pt. 1, we try out the M203 mounted to an M4 carbine as well as the Spuhr M203 Grenade Launcher mount.

    Even a 155 or even Rpg equivalent dropped/shot in a movie is some massively huge gas orange red explosive fireball haha. It certainly doesn't look impressive although for me personally, I would appreciate more reality than then the latter.

    I knew guys who could fire one 40mm at a very high angle and then fire a second one directly at the target and both would hit at the same time. The round only travels at around 250ft per second. That's slow enough to see it in flight.

    This is the weapon that I carried as a Marine back during the early 80's. A bitch to lug around for 30-days in the field but fun to shoot for A LITTLE WHILE. I once shot an entire case of rounds in one sitting and by the time I was done, my shoulder was VERY tender to the touch. Touching it would have gotten you punched. Never did that again. A case holds a LOT of rounds but I lugged that empty beast back to the rear because it was made so nice. Sorta like a gigantic cigar box. I still have that thing today, 38-years later. One thing you didn't cover was the various types of grenades that thing shoots, most nasty being the white phosphorous grenade. Like you said, great for a small room and if any of that crap gets on you, it's gonna burn THROUGH your cloths. Another thing is that a grenade has to travel a certain distance and so many revolutions before it arms so if you try to go Tony Montana at the end of Scarface and blow a hole on each side of a door, nothing is gonna happen. Since you wear a vest full of grenades as a M-203 man, that would suck if the grenades didn't work that way. I noticed that this one was capable of going full auto with the M-16. Nice.

    US Army veteran here, 1980-1983. My memory of the M203 is that about 1 in 10 of us was issued this weapon. Maybe 1 in 20. My roommate had one. For "raining" firepower down on enemies who were behind low cover, yea, they were fairly effective. To get one through a window of an enemy in a building, or into a machine gun nest, you had to get pretty close, maybe 50 yards. Yea, the movies do exaggerate the effectiveness of this weapon, lol.

    Thin Lips Tht's just because BF hs destructible environments, so that becomes the primary purpose of the M203. It's actually a byproduct of them making the damge it does to infantry more realistic. I mostly used it to finish off enemies who I had shot a couple of times but they managed to make it behind cover or if my mag was empty, it wasfaster to switch.

And no, it is your oil or some Arab's oil but yeah, god must have made a mistake by putting AMERICAN oil into middle eastern soil I guess. How dare that "Hadji" refuse to take our worthless green toilet paper in exchange of oil? You probably still think Hussein had WMDs and the invasion of Iraq was a legit thing and totally connected to Afghan and Pakistani islamism right? So WP bombing cities was cool since every civilian could be a Jihadi threatening your midwestern lard ass in your meth ridden small town in the middle of farmland? I've used the 203 at up to 650 Meters. At that range, you have time to regain your sight picture before the round hits and be ready to adjust your Kentucky windage to have a second round right on target within seconds. If you have a second shooter, he can adjust his fire based on your impact and have a second round going downrange within a split second of the first impact. By using these tag team tactics, even a small team can be devastating.

    Tim thetoolman You are correct sir. Carl Gustaf makes an M2/M3 and an AT4/M136 round like that. It's called the "Confined Space" or CS model. You still need around 2 meters to the rear and to each side to prevent injury to the firer in use. The first weapon to generally issue a "CS round" was the German made Armbrust rocket launcher.

  • @MrAzrancher

    @MrAzrancher

    9 жыл бұрын

    Creature Feature Firing the M203 from an enclosed space presents no problem to the shooter as there is no backblast. If the 40mm round entered an enclosed space the concussion from the blast would cause disorientation and injury as well as the shrapnel. The M203 is used for defilade fire, or dropping grenades into concealed or blocked area's for anti personnel use. Shooting at targets on the other side of ravines, in trenches or ravines where normal line of sight rifle fire can not reach and out of the normal range of a hand thrown grenade. In Korea and WW2 a grenade was fired from the muzzle of a rifle but while doing so made the rifle inoperable to shoot regular ammo. The M79 was devised to provide indirect fire capabilities to rifle squads and that evolved into the M203 so the rifleman could have a grenade capability as well as retaining his rifle usage.

    What differences are there with the 203 and 320? Apart from how you reload it... Here in Australia, as far as I know, we still use the 203.

  • @FloorItDuh

    @FloorItDuh

    I find the 203 is lighter than the HK. It's also less bulky and for me being left handed much easier to load as well.

  • @theDudeOfDudes

    @theDudeOfDudes

    9 жыл бұрын

    Josh Leviton Yeah, the 320 on a rifle is damn near cartoonish. The thing is so heavy and takes up so much space compared to the 203. They're a whole lot better when strapped to the outside of an assault pack IMO. Our company commander initially made every platoon attach them to rifles.....that lasted for the first field problem. It is great that you can carry one in the chamber and not worry about it like the 203 though. I never had any confidence in that safety.

    TheDudeofDudes _EDIT: Thanks for the info_ Josh Leviton I don't have any experience with these. What are the advantages to mounting this to a rifle? I feel like I would rather carry it as a separate unit than hanging it off of my rifle, but again I have no experience with it.

  • @FloorItDuh

    @FloorItDuh

    On a rifle? For me it's less you have to carry on you in the sense of it's not in your pack or slung over your shoulder or something similar. As a lefty I also don't like how the HK unit loads. I don't like the trigger on the HK and I don't like it for its size. I don't have combat experience so others who have may disagree with me but this is all my OPINION based on my experiences with the two.

    The one thing that always annoyed me about the M203 was that someone in the upper echelons decided that the milspec of it's clamps needed to stay compatible with the scrawny M16A1 barrel contour. Which is why the M16A2 barrel contour is a pencil diameter under the handguard instead of a more reasonable & useful thickness. Also it is why the M4 & many MForgeries have the dorky M203 cut on the front of the barrel. No doubt someone out there thinks that looks super cool, but it does *nothing* beneficial for barrel harmonics or heat soak.

I am not here to debate or split hairs on what ifs. most likely he is heavy and overweight because of his service with special operations career, injuries and demanding missions have probably taken its toll and him and being older now his past injuries come back to haunt him keeping him in pain so he isn't as mobile as he once was causing weight gain. take care

He thought he was fighting for my freedom. That is what I respect. And I appreciate that. But unfortunately the facts say he was not. The worst story ever written are the military forces that died believing that. Heroes? ABSOLUTELY! lied to by our self servicing government to fight for a falsehood? Unfortunately, yes. To all military.............. I thank you for your beliefs. Thank you. If eel pain when any serviceman loses their life. Even worse than the pain felt is the anger I feel for our government that is to blame.
