I made a front sight adjustment tool with a small C clamp. Removed the round part on the end and ground and polished it down to fit perfectly.

Like most m1917's, the ladder sight spring needs to be peened flat since when you have it raised, the sight ladder is tilted forward. Simply raise the sight, remove the spring screw and drive the flat spring out with a punch. There are two ears where the sight sits, they are probably curved upward. They need to be bent/peened to be flatter. This can be done without removing the sight ladder.

Jake, I will give it a try one of these days. I have two more guns to work on that belong to a buddy that I need to finish up. Then I can get back to my stuff.

I really enjoy those videos Tony. Congratulations on catching that M1917. That’s the keeper for sure!

One hell of a rifle imo. One of my all-time favorites right next to the 1903 variants, especially the A3.

The M1917 does not get the praise it should. I have four of them now and love shooting them. My CMP rebarreled Remington with a Criterion will run with anything out there.

Beautiful rifle, great shooting! I had one that looked unissued after it’s re-arsenal and it had a perfect “EK” cartouche. It was inspected by Elmer Kieth! I foolishly sold it in my misguided youth…

I really love the m 1917 very accurate i have a Remington that looks like it has been beating rocks its whole life i call it the ugly. my club has a bench rest military bolt action class, steel plate shoot, 10 inch plates at 250 yards every year. it has alot of 1st and 2nd place wins. i have Parkinson's so its a challenge, everyone at the range knows the ugly it just shoots, i have 3 other m 1917s but none as good as the ugly. thank you so much for your video, my club canceled the shoot this year because of covid.

I hate to hear about your club. We haven't missed a beat on the Vintage Sniper Match at Henry County.

Want a good one? Buy a cheap bore scope and scope the barrel before you choose one. TE and MW figures are not the only indicators of quality. 30 seconds with a bore scope will tell you what you need to know if you want a shooter. If you dont care then accept a possible wall hanger...

When did you get this rifle? I've been thinking of making the trip to the south store to see how many they have left.

I’ll take my enfield over my A3 all day long. More accurate, smoother action, and lighter recoiling.
