    When I replaced the intake gaskets on my '93 500SL I installed the throttle valve on the lower intake manifold before joining it to the upper manifold. Made things very easy. Just a suggestion and worth every penny you just paid for it.

    That would have been many times easier, I agree. Unfortunately I was following the work instructions for only replacing the throttle valve which assumes you haven't taken the intake manifold out and apart. I'll know for next time haha.

    Thank you VERY much for the videos! A question about the hoses that go to the TB. Mine are very hard and brittle. Are they supposed to be plastic like or are the rubber hoses? Also, when removed my hoses there is a lot of slime inside of them. Is that the way it should be?

  • @FriendlyMBTech

    @FriendlyMBTech

    They're supposed to be rubber and soft. They're may be some oil residue in the hoses. That is normal. If it's extra thick and restricting the hoses, that is not normal.

    I read that the 91-95 mercedes have biodegradable wiring harnesses and my 94 SL500 has a bunch of exposed wires wich causes it not to run. Do you happen to know if the new harnesses you purchase is made from the same materials? Also are these biodegradable wiring used through out the chassis or engine only.

  • @FriendlyMBTech

    @FriendlyMBTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    The new harnesses aren't made with the biodegradable material. Also, as far as I know the issue was only with the engine harnesses.

    I have a cherry picker to hoist it and I had to get some bolts long enough that were the same thread size as the bell housing. Then I had to make up the difference with like 6 washers on each because they were too long.

    I have 94 E420 with blink code on pin 4 (LH module) code 10 MAF voltage over or under and code 19 adaptation at limits. These codes have been cleared but come back. MAF is original 320,000. I think this indicates MAF has failed. Car sometimes stumbles at idle when giving gas. Exhaust seems rich. MAF is expensive part so wanted to ask your opinion first.

  • @FriendlyMBTech

    @FriendlyMBTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    Could be the MAF or a vacuum leak. With that many miles, I would definitely check all the vacuum lines first. Vacuum line is way cheaper than a MAF. Also, the code for the voltage, if you haven't already replaced your upper wiring harness, I'd check to see the condition of that. Maybe the wires are shorted.

    My throttle body only seems to go half way open. If i could decribe it as the trottle moves about half way it catches and then it opens to half at full actuation. What do you think would cause that?

  • @FriendlyMBTech

    @FriendlyMBTech

    Could be any number of issues inside the throttle actuator. There are gears inside the actuator that teeth can break off of. There are electrical issues that can occur. This video shows a potentiometer repair and you get a look inside at the gears. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eI2pt8mTd9KWm84.html

    Can you share the part number for the harness. I’m trying to resurrect a 93 400 that I found sitting at my in-laws garage. Sitting over 10 years. Great work! There are so few of these around. It was running great for few month and then within a weeks just died. It starts and runs, but as soon as it reaches operating temp, closed loop I’m guessing, just dies.

    Either of these two options would be your best bet. Unless you can find a New Old Stock on somewhere but those are as rare as hens teeth. Parts for these are becoming increasingly difficult to source at the factory level. The engine harness I got for this was one of two in the country.

    @@leeknight6479 I was unaware of this program. It does seem like a good alternative if parts are unavailable, especially for people wanting to keep "factory" parts. I will definitely look into this if I need to. I really do not know the condition of the MAF on this engine since I've never seen it run.
