I have owned 5 Dell laptops over 15 years and one thing I am certain of is that the battery will deplete significantly within 2 years and almost fully by the 3rd year, just when finding a replacement battery would become difficult.

Great video, enjoyed that. I’m finding the opposite actually, preferring my 9510 to my 14” M1 Pro. Prefer Windows 11 generally. Also think if it’s mainly used as a laptop, the keyboard deck becomes important and the carbon fibre is so much more comfortable. I changed the battery after a year on my XPS so it isn’t an issue. Big difference of price between the two in your video as well.

Definitely! Some of the apps I've installed are BetterSnapTool, DockMate, and AltTab. Some of these can be found for free, but a couple are also paid and really depends if it will make a difference for you to feel comfortable in macOS with similar capabilities as Windows

Appreciate the comment! Overall I think going with Dell would be a solid choice, especially for those who want to game! The XPS has a great display for viewing content, and having Windows for getting access to majority of games as well with Intel and NVIDIA working together on processing and graphic performance, it can make it a great lightweight gaming laptop!

May I ask you how is the thermal performance of your XPS17 2022? I have an XPS7 i9 4K touchscreen and my keyboard is too hot. How did you find yourself with the heat and noise of the fans?

  • @AnishRajah

    @AnishRajah

Thanks for the question! As for thermal performance, it can be an issue getting towards intense workloads which is why I would recommend making sure to use the laptop on a proper desk or place where it can get better airflow, or to attach an external display to have the laptop a bit further away. It can also get loud which I mentioned in the video, personally, I think the best way to combat it is by using headphones while working but it can get annoying over time.

  • @AnishRajah

Great question! It's definitely tricky finding the perfect laptop which is why it's best to look for what fits your main needs. The majority of students I know and myself have turned to Macbook since it's much more stable in a scenario needed for college with a battery life that can last for the majority of the day, but still having performance that can rival high-end/spec machines. Personally, I still prefer Windows over macOS, which is why I still own and operate with my Desktop PC as my main workstation whereas the MacBook is still powerful enough to handle my creative workflow, but is reliable for college. If you have the budget to do something similar, I'd advise that method, but otherwise, it's not easy in the current status of finding something that can do it all, and would recommend getting a MacBook if you want no noise/overheating and handle davinci resolve. I will say, if Windows is something that is a dire need over macOS, I'd recommend taking a look into laptops with either Intel 12th or 13th Generation that's within a productivity laptop rather than a creative/gaming laptop so it can provide better battery life as well as give the performance of the integrated graphics of the processor to handle most video codecs without straining battery performance. Hope the information helps!

Depends if you're a MacOS or Windows user! Since majority of games are usually compatible with Windows over MacOS, most will go with it, but specs wise the MacBook does have a higher performing GPU, but limited in games with MacOS.

Anish should I buy an open box, like new, 12700H 3060/6gb vram, 32 gb memory, 1tb, UHD for 1,650 USD. Or M2 MBP for 3,400 USD… I need 32 GB of memory and at least 1TB.

Hey sorry for seeing this a bit late! But between the two, really depends on what you're looking for and the type of work you do within a laptop. For the XPS laptop, if you don't plan on doing many intensive workloads, I'd say it's a good deal for what you're paying, but if you plan to do more intensive workloads which could take up a lot in battery life, I'd say it's better to spend the extra value on the MBP since it'll last longer in both performance and battery life, but also it's value later on if you decide to sell or trade up in the future.

@@AnishRajah I went with Dell 17 XPS (open box) and add a second M.2 OEM 1 TB and setup a 2TB Raid 0 drive. Everything opens, saves and closes instantly. My side hustle is in predictive analytics and I use large excel files. I find the file system and Excel to work smoother on a PC. And 6-8 hours of battery is enough for me… Plus I find windows manages multiple monitors and Dell’s thunderbolt docs keeps the desk setup clean. I wish I had iMessage on XPS and could use the XPS’s keyboard and mouse to control my iPad like Mac’s universal control. I use a multi device on KB and mouse which helps.

I believe I mentioned that the MacBooks camera is better compared to the XPS especially the way it handles the noise levels, however the point I was making is that most people who are using them for online meetings and practical applications aren’t really going to notice or truly care, and with their resolutions almost the same with 720p and 1080p and also varying on signal strength to know the quality output for video calls, they’ll both get the job done. If Apples was 4K or looked massively better than the XPS, the point would’ve been given to them, but I don’t believe the camera is going to be a major buying decision since they will both do fine for consumers with performance and OS being the main decision makers. Hope I answered your question! 😁

I'd take the MacBook any day for reliability. I've personally had 3 XPS 15's and 2 XPS 17's over the past 2 years and all of them have had debilitating issues. The one I'm on now works ok, but the fans blast doing the simplest tasks and it has goofy issues such as the file explorer crashing and freezing literally every time I use it (as a photographer this is unacceptable). Do yourselves a favor and go for a MacBook if you're a creator.

The only thing I don't like Apple Macbook Pro is the display, it can easily cracks from wiping/cleaning with a soft cloth. I had my replaced twice and it's very costly ($1200 to $1500 CAD). Third times, it cracks by itself......I have no issue cleaning the Dell and or Razer Blade 4K touch-screen because they both used corning gorilla glass.

YOU'RE A TRAITOR!!!!! 👏🏼🤣👏🏼🤣👏🏼🤣 Jk, Jk. Thanks for the comparison. Only thing I hate about the mac is it's very stiff up front cost vs when I just recently bought the XPS I saved well over a thousand dollars when I chose the lowest 512gb m.2 ssd and 16GB ram specs with the highest i9 and Gpu (I bought 2x 2 tb m.2 ssd's and 64gb ram kit to up grade and still saved money vs buying those specs through Dell). Also I went with the full hd screen to save additional battery life as well... * That all in all came nowhere close to the price I would have paid for a macBook build with the same specs 👀🥶🥶🥶🥶🙅🏽 Thank you again and content creating my friend 👋🏼🙂

The XPS has great battery life. Try using Linux OS/UBUNTU and it will last far longer than with windows. Don't put the blame on dell. Put it on windows, because a lot of people watching this video will blame dell, for bad battery life. Also your viewers should know that you get faster performance on Linux systems, and literally every thing is better on Linux, apart from the interface.

Thanks for the input! Definitely got a point about windows not properly optimizing the hardware to run it's potential. Dell does indeed make great laptops and not trying to bring them down in any way, but also I think another reason as to why the battery life doesn't hold up as well is especially going with the top tier specs, it draws out more from the machine itself with the 4K Touch and dGPU which takes down on it's battery performance, whereas if it was HD and iGPU, it wouldn't be as draining and makes it manageable. I think we can both agree that it really comes down to optimization and to understand how each component works to make it as efficient as possible, but not overtaking on sacrificing one over the other. Appreciate the comment, definitely need to do more digging into Linux 👍

@@AnishRajah True. I think maybe if Apple also had a touch screen the battery life might not be as good as it without the touch screen. Also the IR face unlock is another point i don't understand Apple not including in their camera system.

The advantage of PC over Mac is apps support in some fields like engineering or gaming. If you buy an expensive premium PC to put Linux on it, IMHO I think you'd be better of with a Mac - way less issues, better integration and more apps too 😉
