20 out of 20 people that have come to me for advice, were best served paying almost HALF the cost to get a mac mini and the other ports a mac mini comes with. While fun, this Imac does not operate in a vacuum. It's like you forgot the mac mini existed. Love your videos, Matt. I watch everyone. I just think that folks are better off saving half the cost or better yet, getting two for the price of one. ;)

Other laps are even worse compared to Macbook pro.

One thing that drives me crazy about “tech” reviews, not everyone is a “content creator “. Full transparency a few channels like this do point out that this is for folks who desire an apple device for productivity purposes.

Thing is, computers are SO advanced now that if you’re not looking for something that can do heavy/intensive work then you can just get the base model. There isn’t really a need to do research just get the basic one lol

We’re looking at upgrading our very old kitchen iMac from the 1st gen aluminum model to this new one. It’s now almost 15 years old (later this year) and just as a general use family homework /FaceTime machine it’s been fantastic despite its age. And until relatively recently, it was still receiving the odd small security update despite being many years past its guaranteed support. This time around I’m actually eyeballing the new iMac with wall-mount support to move it up and out of the way on a swivel arm. That would take care of the vertical movement issue you mentioned in this video it can’t natively do.

6:50 The external audio on the iMac is great for the base speakers in an AIO or compared to the speakers in most monitors. The quality of the built in speakers matters more, I think, in the MacBook than it does with the iMac because a desktop computer is easy to set up with external audio that can just stay in place.

iMac is perfect for those who work from home, matched with the new iPad Pro 12in w/Cellular makes a great combination for productivity

By using M1 across the board - MacBook, iMac and iPad, the question is no more about performance or sheer specs, but what sort of computing experience and form factor the consumer wants. Spot on video!

Excellent review. Subscribed already in the first 5 minutes coz liked the delivery and you hit the exactly point I wanted to know. I have a house hold with more people to use the computer but they don't use that much (kids and wife). Since I am the one mostly using it and do the videos and pictures for my KZread Channel, decided to just buy the MacBook Pro...the bummer is that I will have to buy a adapter and try to hook it up on my old imac or maybe will need to buy another monitor. If you have a video with suggestions of a budget but AMAZING quality monitor, I'd love to watch it.

Really good comparision and conclusion. It's just kinda weired, that nowadays the iMac has the same performance as the Macbook.

The CPUs on the M1 devices get really hot as well, it's just that the fans don't kick in. Surface temps and CPU temps aren't the same... Great video tho

Do I remember correctly that the iMac has an instant account switch if you use the magic keyboard with touch ID to switch between user accounts? Is this something you tested?

What i keep struggling with is i have an ipad pro with the keyboard that simulates a laptop and im definitely looking to get a computer and im leaning twds this imac heavily but am wondering if its just overall more sensible to have a laptop. As u said u don’t sacrifice the portability. In having my ipad pro how much portability do u think im actually sacrificing. Please help im an overthinker. Lol

played the review too safely in my opinion. M1 macbook laptop the way to go. Like you said you could attach it to display, speaker, etc of your choice, while being portable,

I'd say still get the MacBook Air. The Touch Bar isn't really useful for most people and you won't notice thermal throttling unless you're exporting huge projects. Even then, that'll only lead to maybe a couple more minutes of exporting.

I wonder if they could have had better performance with a bigger body? I feel as though they left potential power on the table by putting the laptop internals into a desktop. I guess I'll have to wait for the "Proper Pro line" of M1 devices.

just get the Air and a nice external display. I wish Apple made a cinema display thats basically the iMac w/o the computer guts. its such a nice screen, thin, and especially great speakers. ive never used a monitor that had good speakers.

Do you think the Air can handle "light" editing 1080p?

Great revue Matthew, but I still can’t decide. I currently have an old iPad Pro that is great and working fine. But I’m wanting to do better video editing probably using Final Cut Pro. Trying to decide if I should go for the MacBook Pro or new 24” iMac. Portability of the MacBook Pro adding a monitor for a bigger screen (which may slow it down) v the iMac 4.5K screen and the multimedia experience. But I have portability with my iPad. Any suggestions to help me choose Matthew?

So lets say i have the early bird 2011 still the macbook pro (high sierra), Now i have the Ipad pro 12.9, and Macbook air 256GB, without the M1. Is there a point to upgrade to the I-mac if you have the latest Macbook Air?

Had the dillema of getting a laptop or an ipad...eventually bought the M1 ipad Air and realized it's more than enough for anything I can through at it when I'm on the go..So I got the iMac for the times I need productivity on a bigger screen and I'm all set with only two devices, three if I include the iphone 12 pro which was an overkill in retrospect vs the normal iphone 12

I’m mainly just trying to figure out which one would be more worth it. I have an iPad Pro with magic keyboard for school, but I know I need a computer as well because I can’t do everything I need on my iPad. I’m kinda leaning towards to iMac but I’m still not sure 😂

@@megansreadingcorner I am of the opinion that the an iMac coupled with an iPad covers most scenarios. I see a macbook as a device for people who work a lot away from a fixed place or only have one device. I think the iMac 24 is an amazing bit of kit and an iPad is the most versatile device, especially the newer versions. 👍🏼

Great review. Personally, I hate the two-tone color schemes (the light blue looks nice to me, while the much darker blue on back and sides? Not so much...at all. I appreciated your comments toward the very end, as I’m looking to buy a computer(s) right now. Gut says a laptop for portability, while another part would like a nice desktop with a large screen for my home office. (So buying two types may be in my very near future) Thanks for making me think though. Apple burns me a little though. Just make a new IMac with enough ports and charge one price. Why make models that almost nobody sane would buy? 🙄And if you’ve got an office arrangement such that the back of the IMac will be visible (like mine), it’d help to not need dongles crap up the look because Apple won’t put in a $10 usb-A port.

IDK man, for the Desktop IMac thats actually just a downgrade in performance so I wouldn't want to buy one. Maybe when Apple releases more poreful Chips this year, but I definitely don't want my Desktop to only be able to render stuff that my Macbook Air could.

Got the MacBook Air! My goodness the performance is amazing! Does great for photo editing and runs so much cooler. Haven’t really had a chance to test battery life since I’m using it at home as a desktop until I start school in the fall. Which model do you have?

Yep is enough even with 8 bc the new m1 and ram is not like older intel Macbooks. Having 8 gb of ram with the m1 now is like have 16 and 16 is like 32.

Other youtubers make videos for views and money. You make videos for us, real world consumers. Thank you!

Too bad the imac screen is so glossy like mirror. Working on dark mode eg ide causes eyestrain

I’m in medical school and have a MacBook Pro from 2017 and this spring i bought a monitor for it. I realised a monitor is nessesary for me because of neck and back problems. But the macbook is slow and i want to upgrade. First i thought i buy a new MacBook Air but the thing is i feel like the monitor i have have a ”bad” quality and i’m guessing i would have to pay a lot of money to have a monitor with the same quality as a macbook… so a couple of days ago i decided to buy the new imac. I figured i could do the heavy work at home and to school bring my ipad with keyboard. Do you think i made a misstake with my purchase? And if i keep the imac is 8 gb ram enough? (I don’t really know what ram is but I don’t do any complex stuff with my computer and I will be in school for like 6 more years) :)

I’m planning of getting an iMac alongside my iPad as well! I feel like through these past months of owning the newer iPad Air it’s been able to fit all of my needs while I’m away from home, but am hoping the iMac will makeup for that extra processing power I need when I’m at home studying :). getting a MacBook is still tempting, but I think I get enough of my power and portability needs through my iPad to where carrying a laptop as well would be a bit extra

I’m still having trouble deciding Which do you think is better long term
