【Synopsis】
In the futuristic world, Yu Jie Chen's life is meticulously curated by an AI-driven company, determining her living space, down to the placement of every item. When she's offered a unique service promising to expand the perceived size of her apartment using wooden boxes, Yu Jie agrees, unaware of the hidden agenda behind the offer.
As she reluctantly lives with the wooden boxes, battling claustrophobia and longing for a sense of warmth and connection, Yu Jie's past traumas and desires come to light through flashbacks to her childhood. Despite the initial discomfort, she finds herself addicted to the temporary relief the service provides, only to face dire consequences when her financial resources are depleted.
With the revelation of the true motives behind the service, Yu Jie's world is shattered, as she confronts the exploitation and manipulation at the heart of the company's operations. "The Wooden Box" is an exploration of spatial perception, addiction, and the quest for belonging in an increasingly artificial world.

We feel overwhelmed by the clutter of mundane objects and confined by the cramped indoor space, leading us to anxiety and frustration. We fantasize about more warmth and freedom, but fail to appreciate the value of the space in front of us. The only resources we have are squandered by us, used to consume wooden boxes to decorate our houses. Although this is of no help, we are willing to be squeezed, to comfort ourselves in false feelings, until we completely overdraw our lives.

The intented literal interpretation of the boxes are coffins that contain people like Ms. Chen that used the boxes to get the temporary "high". The company offered them the chance to move back to their original larger home after they ran out of money, but in exchange, they must become one of the boxes after their death, and be used to serve/help people in the same way. Because in this future, according to the company, burying the dead takes up too much space that has so much more potentials. Thank you for reading into the story I appreciate it!

@@linkmusicnow Wow, this story is so creative! I initially imagined that people might be living inside the wooden boxes, since Ms. Chen's house was also a rectangular shape like the boxes. However, I realized that the boxes were too small to accommodate a person's living space. After listening to your explanation, I finally understood that the boxes were for burying the dead. I originally thought that the mention of "burial" in the ending was a metaphor for "wasting time," but it turns out it was actually literal burial.
