M.TECH or MBA: What to do?🤔 | IIT vs IIM ft.
In this journey of Finding WHY, we had a conversation with Shweta Arora, who has completed her MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and now shining in the KZread space as a content creator and on the other side is your host Mayuri Rajput, who has completed M.tech from IIT Roorkee.

Hey! I am Mayuri. And my story took a twist after I completed my Masters in Electrical Engineering from IIT-Roorkee, when...I realised I didn’t want to be an Engineer! I realised my love for teaching & mentoring, and stumbled upon something that clicked with me.
I did my second masters in Career Development & Management from Coventry University in The UK, pivoting to a ‘Career in Careers’. Now I am back to India to help people make the most of their careers by asking them their ‘WHY’.

There are 2 girls whose first names mayuri , shweta and last names Arora , Rajput, and nicknames sweety, goofy, not necessarily in the same order. One of them studied in iim and the other in iit. The one whose nickname is sweety studied in iim. They are born in consecutive years.The one whose first name doesn’t start with m completed her education at the age of 25 not in iit.Arora‘s current age is odd number. Dear mam , I have 5 yrs work experience in construction company , I did my btech in mechanical engineering, after that I started my career in NCC. Limited as a billing engineer.. now i want to shift my career in different fields.. I want to join in data scientist course, now I'm confused between -1. Executive Mtech in IIT Patna - data scientist 2. Executive MBA in IIM Kozhikode. Pls help me mam .. in confused

Honestly, "M.TECH or MBA: What to do?" was just a clickbait. Everything was discussed except the cover line. Should have been a more career-based podcast rather than sharing experiences or playing IIT VS IIM.

Hello ma'am i am also a EE graduate from a govt institute but i feel like it is not a good choice so I am confused that what i do because I think that i go for mba from a central university or take a break and prepare Gate for Mtech because now my only thinking that get a great job no problem where to get a job. I feel the scope in electrical is limited and I do not want to waste any more time. So please ma'am it guide me i am very confident

Core branches like civil mechanical power system etc won't be having very high packages ....but if you are doing your masters from IIT in branches like AI VLSI embedded and CSE then you can get a very good package

Motivation mil gaya
My sister is so smart she also got a package of 1cr in TCS after giving 2 years service and she didn't studied from IIT-IIM but still she beat everyone even to IIT-IIM students who can't beat to my sister where she get package of 1cr in switzerland where the tax rate is also very low and today she is crorepati very strong bank balance that's how my sister is real hero instead of any IIT-IIM students.

Thanks to both of you for bringing such a great session. Every single word I can relate it to my life. My confusion: I have done B.Tech in 2018 from a non-IIT then M.Tech in 2020 from IIT Delhi & now doing a job in PSU from more than 2 years. While doing my job, I realised the need & interest in doing an MBA. Is it advisable to do an MBA after M.Tech? Whether M.Tech will become a hurdle in entry to IIM or in further placements from MBA college ? Thanks in advance.

Maine sabhi Kiya lekin life is so gloomy. Sometimes Engineering cycle eats us a lot,thus not so heart through. Better the CSR and learning to be a part of Commerce system by learning MBA.

After doing MTech from IIT/NIT/IIEST getting job in abroad would be easier compared to MBA from IIM. As IIT is more popular in USA than IIM. So MTech gives more stable jobs under long run. Further most of MTech gets chance to be CEO compared to MBA. Unless untill your company is non technical like Finance, HR Company etc., where your BTech degree is of no use. I have seen MTech in IISc Bangalore is Professor in University of Alabama. Various countries prefer Technical manpower for Visa than MBA. While most of the MBA people drop their well paid job in middle and look for open their own company. May be they feel lonly and bored at top. Workload is high in MBA and most could not cope up with pressure of top post. In todays world Online MBA can be done easily compared to MTech. So there high chances MBA will loose in long run. As in Silicon Valley People like Elon Musk openly do not value degrees and MBA. If your age is under 28 and you can get Top MBA College it's good. Other wise don't take risk stick with MTech/MSc Engg. I have seen many people not getting proper jobs after MBA.

@1:52 right now I'm stuck in the same situation ma'am pls guide me I am right now very much stuck with my career, Couldn't get iit even after a drop year so I really want to be an IITian (MTech is the last option there) but on the other hand I am into research field as I have heard Mtech ke baad log professors ya PhD wale bann jate hai .... and also I want a great package just like shweta mam's aur note bhi chapne hai jo ki MTech ke through is tough. also I have a dream to go in an abroad university for a degree(may be mba or m.s. if I don't do mtech) PLEASE GUIDE ME !!! I'M SO STUCK AND CONFUSED RIGHT NOW WHILE I'M IN MY BACHELOR'S DEGREE PLEASE HELP MA'AM !

Working to get MTech is general is a waste of time and money at any college. Work experience is much better to get. if the person is research oriented then doing MTech as a steppingstone to a Phd makes sense. The only other reason to get a MTech is if you want to change your specialization, this might give some credibility and increase your chances to get a job in the new field. My 2 cents - Retired now and held executive positions previously

But mtech don't cost any thing it is free. The stipend you get is more than the entire fees of two years in every old IIT including the hostel and mess.

I have many questions as you're branch is same as mine 1) Which specialization did you take in IIT? 2) Can we do 2 types of study while doing MTech (like doing core studies as well as preparing for IT field again)? 3) How can I link my electrical profile with IT field, if possible? 4) Does students leave in first year after getting any PSU?

Now cse btech average at top IIT is in +35l. Like IIT Patna cse 38l, IIT Kanpur 42L. The software industry has boomed in terms of salary. Even top IIIT, NIT are fetching 30L average for their cse grads post covid. Companies like Amazon are offering 40L as base for SDE2(min 1.5 yrs experience) along with stock and bonus making overall compensation around 55L. An MBA from IIM is now not a topmost paying degree anymore like this used to be due to software job hikes.

@@mananjain529 Atlassian give domestic package of 80lakh and they visit IIITs and NITs also along with IITS and there are some companies which give +1cr domestic packaged but visit only top IITs. Even top consulting,finance, quant companies visit top iits but they don't visit lower IIM

But tell me one thing.let's assume an NIT/IIT having name x and an IIM having name y. Now in x and y both have 100 students. Placement stats for x:- 10 students:- placed at 44 lpa 10 students:- placed at 30lpa 10 students:- placed at 20 lpa Remaining students:- somewhere around 12lpa Placement stats for y:- Maximum students placed at nearly 32lpa. Which one is better?

@@shashankshekhar4455 MBA is post grad degree so consider that 2 year of salary and experience from btech software guys. At that point it is common for software engineering from average IIIT/NIT to make 20-25 fixed annual income while 32 average of IIM is in CTC and also IIM costs one year of Salary (25-30l). Smart software engineers from average IIIT/NIT make +30 annual with 2 years of experience. An good software engineer with 7-8 years of experience is getting around a crore

@@aagamshah2005 Yes I know. But imho, IITs are more famous as UG institutes and IIMS as pg institutes. Also, not all IIMs offer UG. Most of the top students do prefer IITs for UG and IIMs for PG, but of course one can do the reverse if they want that. But still IITs for UG and IIMs for MBAs is a better option.
