In Italy, the winner of Sanremo (usually) is sent to compete in Eurovision that year. So because Måneskin won Sanremo in March, they went to Eurovision later in May

It's funny how Damiano freely and spontaneously acts sexy on stage and in music videos, but He gets totally embarrassed when He gets asked more "explicit" questions (He was literally blushing during the latex/leather segment at some point)

Italian Song Contest aka Sanremo is the oldest music festival in Europe, and it inspired Eurovision! :) The winner goes on to represent Italy in Eurovision. BUT! Sanremo isn't seen as a gateway to ESC. It's the most prestigious contest in Italy and it's really hard to get admitted. You have to have sold a lot of copies and be quite famous. It's the best of the best Italian artists competing against each other! It's a huge honor to participate in it. Which is why Italy always sends quality songs to ESC. Sanremo only accepts songs in Italian, and that's why Italy always performs in Italian at ESC.

Another important thing you have to know: Damiano is a very passionate AS ROMA football supporter, he would do everything for his team (which is mine too). Consider that a couple of minutes before performing at SanRemo, he was watching on his tablet a AS ROMA match of the Italian championship

The other people at the last interview are the cast of Baby (a Netflix serie)

Only Ethan was recruited on FB, Victoria and Thomas were in school together since middle school and they had already been together in a band as kids, she knew Damiano because she had previously been in a band also with him. So Victoria and Thomas contacted Damiano and right after they picked up Ethan. :D

Almost everybody can identify with Maneskin, even if you're not young anymore you've been once and it's easy by looking at these 4 guys to recall memories and identify with them. And it's beautiful to witness their enthusiasm, their energy is literally reaching everybody.

Sanremo festiva is very important in Italy , Eurovision contest has been inspired by Sanremo song contest , it’s well known all over Europe . In Italy who wins Sanremo goes to Eurovision as a contestant so for them winning Sanremo made them partecipate to Eurovision . That’s why they went to Eurovision basically .

The so called "Festival di Sanremo" is the main italian song competition which takes place every year in february, usually in the second half of february (in 2021 it took place at the beginning of march because of covid restrictions in february). The competition always takes place in the italian not-so-big city of Sanremo (more or less 52000 inhabitants) in north-west of italy. The city gives its name to the competition. The first edition of the competition took place in 1951 and, as far as I know, it took place every year since then until today. It's a competition that in Italy more or less all the people follows each year. Normally the competition takes place over a week and, in that week, more or less all the television programmes deal with this competition, although only the italian state television transmits this competition live. In the last years there is the rule that whoever wins the "Festival di Sanremo" competition get also the right to represent Italy at the Eurovision song contest. In 2021 Maneskin won the "Festival di Sanremo" competition with the song "Zitti e buoni", strangely enough, because, as far as I know, this is only the second or third time in history, starting from 1951, that a rock song wins the "Festival di Sanremo". Maneskin also won the Eurovision song contest with the same song "Zitti e buoni",

​@@renatapecci5714 I'm not a music expert (indeed I'm "as ignorant as a goat" as far as music is concerned); but I'm Italian and I'm old enough (over 50) to remember two editions of sanremo that were won by songs that someone considered "rock" at that time (although for sure they're not as rock as Måneskin are). Those songs were "Mistero" by Enrico Ruggeri who won in 1993 kzread.info/dash/bejne/dqaur9J7e7q0ops.html and "Non è l'inferno" by Emma Marrone who won in 2012 kzread.info/dash/bejne/ooGusNp6aJTXnag.html. I think that all depends if you consider these two songs to be "rock" or not. As far as I'm concerned, being "as ignorant as a goat" you can tell me that they're rock and I believe you, but if you tell me that they're not rock I still believe you.

Ethan is very shy... he has been in therapy for it... but they all have had their problems: Damiano had an eating disorder, Thomas had problems sleeping, Vic lost her mother when she was 16 and had a really rough time... That's one of the reasons they are so close... they are family

Sanremo is like the most important Italian song contest. And to answer your other question, the other guys at the end of the video it's the cast of an Italian netflix series "Baby" ☺️

they won X factor Italy, and Sanremo, that is the biggest music contest in Italy ..and the winner of Sanremo always go to the eurovision song contest... and they won eurovision also :-) ....and another fan fact: they started to play music in the main street of Rome.. with a piece of paper behind them: "Maneskin".

the Sanremo festival is the most historical and important song festival in italy, and the winner of the Sanremo Festival will represent Italy in the European Song Contest... which they subsequently also won

When Thomas said that he’d like to make a movie about måneskin, u said that it would be cool, so actually they have one:D It's called “This is Måneskin”. It's in Italian but there is a translated one and you can find it on KZread (it's separated in 6 parts on KZread as I remember).

Sanremo is the inspiration for esc and the national selection as well. The selections start around December I think and some fans watch all of them. The Norwegian selection is MGP (melodi Grand Prix) and the Swedish is Melodifestivalen (the Melody festival). Because they’re so successful most know about melodifestivalen even if they don’t watch it.

But you should also know that literally NOBODY goes to Sanremo to participate in ESC. Infact, the winner can decline (and if they accept, theoretically they could even change the song). And if the winner doesn't want to participate, they could ask the runner up or the "New Proposal" winner or another singer altogether...

at minute 5:00 you say ill try talk slower: It's so nice from you, generally even when U.S. people make interviews to foreigners in the talk show Ive never seen them try to be more comprehensible by talking slower. very professional en open minded. Anyway my syggestion: instead of activating automatic italian youtube subs (which are incomprehensible probably because A.I. inside still doesnt work well) put the english subs written by you, that would help a lot people who know english but have some difficulties in following U.S. accent and fast speech. cheers.

Yes, but winners have to make a decision on whether they want to go or not. In 2016 the winner didn't want to go, so they sent Francesca Michielin. :-)
