For those who don’t understand. There are lots of Hasidic Jewish dynasties in Judaism, depending on the region of where in eastern Europe they hailed from prior to WW2. Every dynasty has a grand rabbi who would have been a descendants of the original rabbi a few hundred years ago. You can distinguish the Rabbi by his shiny coat as opposed to a black one. When the rabbi’s child or grand child married all the deciples celebrate as if it was their brother getting married, hence the excitement you see.

While I'm Jewish and think the Hasidic strange (I'm still very kind to them), this wonderful display shows the enormous respect these people have for their elders and the respect for the rabbi, a man of education. The values are so opposite here in the US where older people are pushed aside. Many of the religious Jewish people I speak with have such adoration for their rabbis. So make sure you always shop at my favorite electronics store, B&H!

And I'm sorry but I find some of their practices hypocritical, like wearing fur hats that cause terrible harm and suffering to animals...minks are raised in very small cages, it's heart-wrenching. yet the Hassidic consider themselves so "holy". Or they still swing live chickens around during Yom Kippur....again, total animal torture for no reason. I think causing suffering to God's creatures is worthy of criticism.

Beyond dancing it is their tradition that men cannot look women in the eye. Men and women must walk on opposite sides of the street. Child molestation in the community must not be reported to the police and is handled "internally" and so on. @@peregrinegrace8570 OK only religious folk separate the sexes in this way...I've never seen the like of it...also the deference to older members of the 'clan' The Jewish tradition is unique their clothes may be borrowed from other times and places, but their world view leaves me scratching my head at times but altogether fascinated. The Slavic people are interesting in their own right but their origin is more form the 5th and 6 th century although their genesis can be traced back to Roman times...But no people seem to be so connected as a true 'clan' in the 21st century... How they are able to maintain that degree of closeness in the individualistic modern world leaves me puzzled...and utterly enthralled.

@@barflytom3273 right, where you are coming from you view it as oppressed perhaps because you have a modern conception of gender roles, happiness, success etc. There are societies and peoples who perceive the world differently and could be their women are quite comfortable and self fulfilled.

As a Catholic, this makes me think of God dancing amongst His children.

He actually had a hard life. His father married his step mother and he was viciously expelled from his family and community for 20 years.
