Back in the early 80’s when I was in High School everyone wore OD Green M-65’s that we got from the surplus stores and 40 years later I still got the same one that still fits and I still wear it in the winter. Now you’ve given me some great ideas to enhance it. Awesome vid!

My uncle gave me one back in like 2001 or 2, and it's still going strong. It's from his navy days back in the 80s and 90s
I got my M65 woodland cammo jacket in 1983 and still have it with my name tape, US Army tape, DARCOM patch, and my First Lieutenants bars on the shoulder epaulets. Still one of the most comfortable jackets I've ever owned.
Not a soldier, but after buying the M-65 Field Jacket from an army surplus store, it has become my favourite winter coat.

Buy a liner insert. It will double the insulation qualities for winter wear. I had lost my liner years ago. I bought a replacement liner at a surplus store and it really helps to keep you cozy when it is bitter cold.
I've worn an M65 Field Jacket for many years. It's my favorite coat. You've just given me a few more reasons to love the M65. Thanks!

All this talk about the M-65 jacket on your channel has now made me want to get one.
I have an M65 from the Seventies. There were USAF bases in Britain, and in Germany, there was the USAF and US Army, so military surplus was plentiful. Mine says, Gonzales. US Army.
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing a little "history".

Still got Mine! I need a new inner liner for when it snows here but. Tried & True. I wear it about Daily never fails me. Same color & all practically new. Thank you for sharing Brother
Reminded me of an old navy trick we used back in the 60's . . And why the quarter masters sometimes would give us a pat on the back as we left the destroyer on liberty to check us for weapons . . Those ties we wore were rolled up sometimes with a roll of quarters inside . Hidden perfectly underneath our back collar flap . Using a non regulation knot you could grab one end deploying it in one continuous motion and wail the hell out of someone .
I saw your original m65 video before deciding to pick one up, I just ordered my second, thanks for such a good coat recommendation

Excellent video Blackie. Even the BDU shirt has hidden places. You can hide all kinds of kit in either garment. Just keep it light and simple.

I'm from England and I own a M65 field jacket. I only thing I didn't like about it was the snap button and lack of a secure flap under the pocket. Soon sorted by sewing velcro under the pocket. Greetings from England Blackie.

About 30 years ago I was given a Vietnam Era m65 that was a little to big so I rarely wore it it hung in the closet for about 5 years and I never washed it because the guy that gave it to me said he had his wife wash it and dry it before he gave it to me I finally got it out and wore it deer hunting on a rainy day and my buddy killed a deer so I got blood on the sleeves and went home and threw the jacket in the washer and then the dryer where it sat until the weekend when my wife did laundry I told her my jacket was in the dryer and she said she would get it out and hang it up a few minutes later she came up the basement steps and yelled out what kind of deer were you hunting last week and she had my coat in one hand and a pair of black silk thong panties in the other I had never seen them before and I know they weren't in one of the pockets they had to have come out of one of the sleeves I tried to show her how you could go between the liner and outside layer and reach down in the sleeve but she didn't care we stayed married for 5 years after that but I don't think she ever believed me

I took a brass zipper off an old pair of mil surplus trousers and sewed it into the right hand pocket on my M65. It's about 2/3 of the width of the pocket. You can't see it with the flap closed as it sewed just on the margin of the outer lip and just under where the flap joins the coat.

Cordage, a small baggie of impregnated cotton, folding money, even "spare" ID's, or other small items like a button compass or small kit can be put into the hood or hood pocket. As a young person, I had classmates that kept various bags of smoking materials there, and cash from having sold some of said materials. Also, if the hood is gone, small envelopes might be tied to the liner and dropped down the back from that hood area. A person intent to conceal something can find a way.
