It is indeed a construction to transform a short single axle [box-]trailer into a tree axle intermediate or link trailer, which makes it possible to form a B-double combination, together with another, more standard, semi-trailer. This construction also enables the small trailer to have a type of tail-lift that also closes off the back of its load space. (Like a gate bridge does at the entrance of an old castle.) This loadlift can (only) be used for on- and off-loading when the dolly with the two additional axles and the fifth wheel coupling is detached. For convenience the small box can also be unloaded via doors along the whole length of the left side wall (by a forklift or such ;-) ).
