Lyricist Reacts to the Warning - TEDxUniversityofNevada - JTMm Reacts

Welcome to JustTenMoreMinutes aka JTMM aka The Freakin 10! I am not sure what I was expecting with this as I have never watched a TedX at all, but this was awesome. To hear them speak to the audience who may or may not have known about them and to see people give them such a good reaction was heartwarming. Loved this!!!

How can you not be proud of these young ladies? It's impossible. Such good people and all their hard work is finally paying off. And they deserve all of it. I love this performance. Watching Pau's helicopter ponytail makes my day.

This was the video that introduced me to The Warning. The second half of Survive caught me off guard and hooked me in. Such a great groove. I went down The Warning rabbit hole quite quickly after that. They have a sound and presence I did not know was missing from my musical library until I heard them. I am now fully on board. Yes, I am one of those older people standing up and cheering them.

This is by far my favorite performance, especially 14-year-old Pau's kit-smashing performance of Unmendable. Their sheer joy and exuberance is so endearing and infectious. Their musicianship was so on point and the video captured it so well. Definitely a great argument for why a Pau Cam should be mandatory at all shows that are filmed. Amazing how many people became such huge fans of the girls after seeing this video. I know I did.

There is another song called Narcisista. They released it as a single in 2019. Their critics complained about all of their songs being in English and Narcisista is their rebuttal. It's also their first song sung in Spanish. Pau is on lead vocals.

If I ruled the world, my first act would be to mandate a Pau Cam at every TW show! I hope she had an insurance waiver on that rental kit cuz the pushed that thing beyond the limits it was intended for that entire set. Can you imagine how much better the world would be if we could all conduct ourselves more like these amazing role models? The Warning, Great Band, Better Human Beings!

This is the performance, like many others of their fans that grabbed me hook, line and sinker when I saw this during the start of lockdown 2020. You might have noticed that this show was where two, now legendary phrases came from..."Music is passion, music is hope, music is life." (typically fans will replace the word 'music' with 'Dany') and "You have been Warned!"

TED talks are talks given to academic audiences, usually at universities, on all sorts of interesting subjects. The fact that TW were asked to give a talk two years in a row is simply amazing. This talk from January 2017 was the most watched talk of that year. Little did the audience know waht they were watching: two teenagers and a pre-teen fearlessly speaking in their second language and rocking out. Pau wore heels so she would appear taller during her talking. And Pau handled her broken stick in a professional manner! This is the video that hooked many fans including me.

On Dany's birthday in 2022, I was on a reactors site whom I respect thumbing through his videos, and this band called The Warning kept showing up. Knowing he wouldn't react to them so many times unless there was something there, I decided to check them out. I picked his reaction to a song called "Survive". It was an excerpt of this Tedx starting with Dany's speech right before Survive started. I was immediately blown away. First what she had to say hooked me, then they started playing. Wow. Passion, energy, pure enjoyment for what they were doing, and this wall of sound from a 3 piece band that was incredible. And of course there was Pau absolutely destroying a drum kit. I instantly jumped into the rabbit hole. 8 hours later I had to pry myself away from my computer just so i could get a couple hours of sleep. The next day I was a patron supporter and have never looked back. I will support these young women for the rest of my life. Hopefully as a rock band, but if they decide to start a catering business instead, I'll support them with that. Keep going with your reactions, doesn't matter what you pick.

I don't necessarily prefer the 2016 TEDx over this one, but I was disappointed to see that JTMM chose to do this one first. Perhaps he won't even get to the 2016. What I love about the their initial appearance is how at ease they were when jamming through the three tracks they played, with the nerves of speaking to the audience both visible and audible. Add to that one of my personal favorites of theirs, "Exterminated" closing the set. I also enjoy seeing the contrast a year later in this video as Dany, Pau and Ale were excited about releasing XXI Century Blood. Musically, this was was a little more polished with another year of practice under their belt as well.

Incredibly, their success has been questioned in recent times and whether they really deserved to open Muse in Mexico. that if their success is due to having money or because they are privileged for being women. I think the reason for their success is in this video, look how convinced they were that they would make it, there is nothing stopping them. Great reaction.

Here they are - Dany, Pau and Ale - fearlessly performing in front of industry types with the kind of passion and joy that inspires people of all ages. The first time I watched this (which was the first time I watched the Warning) I was absolutely blown away. Emotional? I've watched this dozens of times and I still get emotional. They're kids speaking in their second language in front of a large crowd and they're so fierce and confident. It is, perhaps, one of the best presentations I have ever seen (and I see presentations often). Their commentary is so incredible and on point. As a creative professional, I go back to this every time I feel myself slipping into the dark funk that often accompanies the job. Today was one of those days, so I thank you for picking this day to react to this TedX because I know you know exactly what I mean.

You need to do the 2016 one to see more of their story. These are what sealed the deal as to why I love them so much. Not only are they inspiring musicians but anyone that needs some inspiration. They also show they are not into fame, fortune, money, glamor. They want to play their music, share their love, and "make a living doing what we love". They are rebels against the industry and forging a way for musicians and others to be successful without selling your soul and retaining your humanity and humility. They are humble but sure of themselves. Just wonderful people.

This one pulls people in for good. The other TED talk is the same format. There are definitely some real good interviews where they get into more personal details and life experiences, but the TED talks are just pre-planned talks, which are incredibly charming but not detailed. I can think of a couple of others, though. Will be sure to make suggestions, I think you will want to cover their single Narcissista, which came out before any of the Error songs

This performance gets me every time, their eloquence, their passion and their unbridled talent, also it is the most I've seen Ale talk in a single setting. Just one hell of a performance. By all means do the other Ted Talk and while it has their cover of the Foo Fighters The Pretender in it, you should also checkout their video for that song too The Pretender (Out of the Basement) it is great. Also as others have mentioned you need to check out Narcisista when performed for the first time at Foro Didi, such an incredible song and a perfect response to those people that were criticizing them for performing in English instead of their native Spanish.

Pau has scaled back on the whole-arm way she attacks the drums. She does much more with her wrists now, which still gives her the same intensity and impact without endagering her safety and expending all her energy. IDK, maybe she was overcompensating for her youth and size. Pau injured her finger during the last song of a different show. I think that scared her a lot. So, now she has a more intelligent strategy. If you notice, Pau is wearing heels (and playing drums in them!) The crowd reacts to her her speaking and being out of breath, which is funny. She has always hit hard. Some call her the destroyer of drum kits. I think DW Drums should have a label on their kits, saying "Pau Tested". Watch closely on Survive. Pau breaks a stick and stays on beat while she reaches down to replace it. Total professional. They all are professionals. There have been many "technical difficulties" during their shows when something has gone wrong for one or the other of them. They take it in stride, maybe making a joke about it with the crowd. They are comfortable in their skins. Dany has had the batteries die on her wireless transmitter or on her guitar during a show. Pau had broken her kick drum. And at one show, during Evolve, which is the song they usually close a set with, she lost a drum stick, switched her left hand stick to her right hand and continued playing the few bars that were remaining with her bare left hand hitting the snare. Another time, Ale's srap onher bass broke and she kept playing, squatting down until the stage tech brought a stool out for her to sit on while he tried to fix her strap. At the first opening for Muse in Monterrey, on the first song of their set, which as "Z", Ale stepped on a loose bootlace and fell backward. She continued playing even as she fell and was laying on her back. She only paused briefly when Carlos, (I think it was) - anyway, it was one of their stage crew, came out to help her up to her feet. I like how Ale talks so much during this one. Younger Ale seemed to speak her share of the time early on. At some point she realized that Dany and Pau would dominate any conversation that the three of them participated in. And she is okay with that.

The audience, of course, consists mainly of members of the university community, academicians and students. You can see, at the end, that they were very well received by all attending. TEDx Talks are by invitation, and they were invited back for this presentation, because the video of their presentation from a year earlier received the most views on their channel. That video is titled 'Young Girls Love to Rock'. If you decide to react to that, I think we can do without the Auto-generated subtitles. The girls speak clearly, and are quite easy to understand (without some of the ludicrous misinterpretations from the captions). Thank you for reacting to The Warning!!

Ted Talks are generally more of an intellectual forum where people who are experts in or living in certain situations are granted the opportunity on this platform to explain that issue/experience to an intellectually curious audience - thus they are usually held at universities around the world. Honestly they can be a really good resource if you find yourself wanting to learn about something. If you find a Ted Talk about it you'll get some good information to at the very least start your journey into learning about a subject. I know I haven't commented very much on your videos, but I want to thank you for this journey you have taken with The Warning. While I was already a huge fan of theirs to begin with, watching your videos and hearing your interpretation of their songs has actually enhanced my appreciation for their music and song writing. I know time is an issue for you with work and kids and all of that, but if you ever get the opportunity a full length stream of the Lunario show would be awesome and would also explain some of those camera angles you thought were a bit weird watching the individual videos because that show was professionally recorded and edited. Plus there's a little extra content before and after the show that is cool to see.

My thoughts exactly about Pau when I first saw these TedX talks by them. I noticed how she carried herself and how she spoke up on stage. Nothing against Dany and Ale but my first impression was that Pau was the heart and soul of the band, meaning that she was the main character of The Warning; only to be confirmed later in interviews from Dany and Ale that she is the most creative of the three and that most of the songs are started by her on the piano.

I wonder if the reason for a TEDx talk is because they didn't yet have a visa to perform in the US, but since universities can bring in people from anywhere (almost) to give talks, they got in.

  • @mattpujol4787
    @mattpujol4787 Жыл бұрын

Maybe somebody already mentioned it,but the TED talk format is limited to 15 minutes. They are almost always a subject matter expert talking about their thing. They cover a vast array if subjects. This is a TEDx which is a bit more flexible than a "TED" branded talk. That's probably why they went longer. My point being, to get 3 songs in there, they couldn't spend a lot of time, so the speaking material has to be to the point. But that's part of what TED is all about, condensing what you have to say into 15 minutes and still making your impact. Another detail, a TED event lasts like all day Saturday and there are like probably 8 or so speakers with a musical interlude every now and then. So the audience is there for a while variety of reasons. I would love to see an interview with someone in the audience to get their reaction. That would be fun. BTW, I love your reactions and it's been so much fun watching you descend down this rabbit hole that so many of us have. Keep it up, man!
