LYRA-8 // it's not the destination, it's the journey

Музыка

This is the jam I ended up with, following the process I described in the previous video.
This time we're taking it slower, calmer, less creepy, and I felt like that was the case, especially during these challenging times.
Enjoy ✨

    I just received my pink Lyra today. This is the 3rd one I bought......returned each of the other 2 (one white, one green) not because of color but because I had not seen what this machine is capable of until I found your videos. thank you so much for restoring my faith in the Lyra!

    I understand completely! I would have kept it for long either if it hadn’t been for the color! And while that doesn't make much sense to many people, I strongly believe that instruments (especially these ones) should be inspiring, a joy to spend time with. Have fun with it! 🧡

    For this piece I literally closed my eyes and went with the current. I didn't even know what I played until I listened back to the recording, I only knew I was very satisfied with the "experience" of the jam, and I knew the result had to be good. Thank you so much 🧡

    I am very very proud of this jam, it has been a very immersive experience, since I've tried to approach the Lyra like if it was my first time (following the theme of the tutorial). It came from the deeper inside, and I am so glad you like it 🧡

One of my dreams for the future would be to open something like a small performance club for electronic experiments here nearby Milan where I live. It's been a long time since you've made a video with the Lyra-8. Did you get tired of it? Was it just a momentary thing to play with, quickly replaced by the next exciting toy in the list? Have you sold it or is it sitting on a shelf somewhere? Great music, thank you.

  • @Dexba

    @Dexba

    Жыл бұрын

    That's a great question, and also the question I expected for a while and only now came out (so, thank you!) 1. Have I sold the Lyra? No, I haven't, even though I thought about it a few times; usually, when I think about selling it, I turn it on, fiddle with it for a bit, and don't even realize I've just spent two hours wandering in some extraordinary soundscapes and put it back again. So yeah, we could say it spends a lot of time sitting on a shelf, but every time I take it out I record something that becomes one of the most viewed (and appreciated) recordings here on my channel. 2. Was it momentary? No, it never was. I bought it as a joke because of the funny colour, and it ended up being the key to me making more music. It also got me a ton of views here on KZread, and while I don't care about those specifically, it definitely hinted to me I was "onto something" and that maybe my music didn't suck and I could be a little prouder, showing it around. So I kept going, and now I am so lucky to be here talking about these things with other passionate people like you. So, thank you Lyra! 3. Did you get tired of it? It depends a lot on the period. I get easily tired of it if I use it too frequently, and while that seems bad, to me is also natural, since I can't stay focused on one single "project" for too long (or I would probably make music on a DAW). Imagine I am even a cellist, but for many reasons (mostly constantly moving from place to place) I hadn’t had time to play the cello for almost 6 years now, but I still love it as when I left it. The constant change of location/house is also why the uploads have been so sporadic 😔 The final thought I have about the Lyra is that every time I record something I try to make it a bit special, a bit of an occasion. You may have noticed that: I try to avoid using the same setup, the same framing, or even the same style, for what I can. With the Lyra, this is something hard to do: being so unpredictable and quirky, I could record a lot and dump everything around carelessly, but that wouldn't satisfy me much, so I decided to keep it on a shelf and use it only when I feel "the Lyra moment" from my heart.

  • @Dexba

    @Dexba

    I'd love to! Money is always an object though, and I know it sounds strange to say under a video with a CXM1978, but when I decided to spend that much on a reverb I wanted to get something super versatile for everything I could throw at it. The Cosmos is not that, exactly as the BigSky I sold to get the CXM wasn't that, and that's good if you can own more than one reverb, but unfortunately, I can't. Maybe if I sell the Ornament-8 I could get a Cosmos because I'd really love to have one, only heard amazing stuff coming out of it!
