If it wasn't for the plane crash I know they would have had at least a few more great albums. Especially with the super talented Steve Gaines having just joined the band. Ronnie Van Zant was so impressed that he said within a couple of years Gaines would be by far the biggest star in the band

Remembering Steve Gaines born on September 14, 1949. He was an American musician. He is best known as a guitarist and backing vocalist with rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1976 until his death in the October 1977 airplane crash that claimed other band members and crew. Gaines' guitar-picking and songwriting skills were a major revelation to the band, as demonstrated on his one studio album, 1977's Street Survivors. Steve's contributions included his co-lead vocal with Ronnie on the co-written "You Got That Right" (a solid hit single released after the plane crash) and the rousing guitar boogie "I Know a Little" which he had written before he joined Skynyrd. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Gaines

@@vanduff9455 as I said, I doubt this was a Skynyrd decision. 3 songs are credited to Rossington abd Allen the rest is Van Zant , Gaines. Skynyrd will forever be known by the songs of those guys including California native Ed King. To me this album is a snoozer besides the first theee songs. There is no southern anything to me in this album and I lived in the south albeit wasn't born there. Gimme Back My Bullets is my perfect Skynyrd album. No swing no horns just grit and southern pride.
