Ed King’s guitar riffs were so underrated. He didn’t have Steve Gaines stage presence, but damn he helped create some of the bands best riffs.

Steve Gaines gets too much recognition. He wasnt a member long. As far as I can remember he had no ". stage presence" He just stood around looking like an Okie from Muskogee

@@CoyLeigh-bl5gh Steve did have some songwriting contributions on Street Survivors. I know a little, You got that right, I never dreamed. Those are Gaines written tunes. Ed on the other hand was an original member with many contribution to their monster hits. I was lucky enough to see them in Richmond, Virginia before the plane crash.

@@johnstaiano5191 Steve was talented but if you listen to the songs he wrote, plays and sings on, such as I Know A Little and Ain't No Good Life, those songs were Texas/Oklahoma Blues not Southern rock. I have a feeling that if Steve had been around for a couple of more albums, the sound of the band would have significantly changed and not for the better. I do like that song of Steve's "I Never Dreamed". Cool use of guitar chords and quite a few different ones. Not really Texas Blues like the others.

Allen Collins had the most stage presence of the 4 Skynyrd guitarists. No doubt about it. I love to see him jumping up and down on Free Bird and other songs. Allen was also a damn good guitar player and probably the best in Skynyrd. Technically, Gaines was better, but Allen played with more feeling. Ed was a damn good guitarist and the best songwriter of the 4 guitarists although we only had the one LP to judge Steve on.. Of course, Ronnie was the one that turned their guitar parts into killer songs.

I don't drink anymore, but my shoes still do shuffle around when I hear Lynyrd Skynyrd through speakers or in my head. Thanks to my brothers and friends I'll never meet, at least not in life. Edit: I am drinking again. Sometimes I still enjoy music, though I'm mostly pretty anhedonic these days.

Ed King, Allen Collins, and Ronnie wrote the best Skynyrd songs (Sweet Home (Ed, Gary), Free Bird (Allen), Saturday Night Special (Ed), Workin' For the MCA (Ed), The Needle and The Spoon (Allen), etc.). Ed, Billy, and Ronnie wrote this song. Ed and Ronnie wrote the legendary Saturday Night Special that kicks off this album. Miss Ed, we lost him 2-3 years ago. Too bad Gary refused to let Ed and Artimus re-join the band especially Ed who had to drop out due to heart problems in the mid-90's.
