The thing I really like about the solo at the end is it isn't simply instrument, it is actually telling the second half of the story. The first part of the song is explaining to his girl he he needs to be free. He finally breaks it off with her, and flies free, and that is when the solo starts, that is what his freedom sounds like. That is how I see it anyway.

This is one of those "Speeding ticket" culprits. You put that one while cruising - and during that outro guitar next thing you know you're doing 80 and got no idea how that happened!! Amazing what real musical artists can do with their instruments - no computers, no digital parts - all played in real time with one another like a well oiled machine.

80?? how come you took your foot off the pedal?? Only joking. Different speed limits in the UK, 70 the limit on major roads so a lot cruise at 80. With one eye on speed cameras, naturally. I did live in the US for a while over 40 years ago and remember the freeway limit being either 50 or 55 which did seem slow. Never forget returning from a Jackson Browne concert at Rosemont Horizon, Chicago with friends in their camper van. The driver lit a joint and next thing we were hurtling down the freeway. I'm busy saying prayers. The driver did spot a police car ahead, he slammed on the brakes, his spliff out the window and fortunately we returned home slow and safe.

The Best Version is them playing Live in Knebworth, England in 1976. They opened for the Rolling Stones. The stage was shaped like a Big Red Tongue and Mic Jagger had told all the other bands to stay off of the tongue and that it was reserved for the Stones. During " Free Bird ", Ronnie leads the 3 guitarists down onto the tongue where they burned the place down. Mic Jagger was pissed and said L S would never open for the Stones again. When they came back to the U S, a reporter asked Ronnie why did he disobeyed Jagger's request. Ronnie replied, " I just wanted to prove the wrong band opened that day and we did ".

She had moved to Jax in '49 with her military husband. Mae co-wrote "Heartbreak Hotel", which was a #1 hit for Elvis. Hoyt wrote "Joy To The World" ("Jerimiah was a bullfrog..."), which was a #1 for Three Dog Night. The only mother/son songwriters to each write a #1 song.

Your reaction Asia as a piece of classical music I one I've never heard before. I'm a child of the 60' and 70's and I'm really glad you could understand the quality of the musicians on that song. The guitar playing is other worldly. It really is " today's Beethovan." You give me hope for the younger generation.

Imagine you are in an old school Mustang with the top down, cruisin' in a world with no cell phones, no internet, no 24 hour tv, disconnected from the world with just your friends in the car jamming to music like this, Zeppelin, The Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, Black Sabbath etc. We were free as birds back then in our youth. Totally different world. Everything was raw and real. No digital touch ups. No auto tune, just young people with talent on instruments. Amazing simple time back then. Glad you enjoyed it. To some of us that lived it, it was a joy to see people react to this music.

To get the full impact of the skill that this band has ,you need to watch the live from Oakland 1977 performance. To witness the great guitar playing and how the crowd goes absolutely insane is worth seeing. This will give you a true feel of what it was like to go to a real concert with real singing and real instruments and fans who are there for the music, unlike the computerized ,lip synced fashion shows of today, where people are there to be seen and put pics on their Instagram.

This came out the year I graduated from high school, 1973. My group of friends used to hang out in the neighborhood park in Brooklyn, NY with a circle of boom boxes (they were popular back then, some taking a dozen D batteries) and when this came on the radio we all turned them up blasting loud. I always loved this song, just because of the feel of it. I still love it after all these years. I'm glad to see younger folks enjoying the stuff from the past. "Hold On Loosely" by 38 Special is another great southern rock song you might enjoy. It doesn't have the wow factor of this song, but it's still an excellent song in my opinion.

I saw them twice and all their concerts ends with Freebird. Singer Ronnie Van Zant and one guitarist Steve Gaines and his sister were killed just a few years after. Lost out on a ton of good music from them. Only the drummer Artimus Pyle who survived the crash is living and was very heroic during the rescue in the swamps. Gary Rossington the guitarist on the slide guitar at the beginning credits him for saving his life when he was trapped under a wing almost drowning

Some fun facts about Ronnie Van Zant: - He wrote most of the songs they recorded, committing them to memory, not pen and paper. - He always went onstage barefoot, explaining he "had to feel the stage." - He once told his father that he'd never live to see the age of 30, saying "Daddy, that's my limit." - Those guitarists you hear in this solo are what Ronnie referred to as "my mules". - His brother Donnie played in "38 Special", and his brother Johnny sang for Skynyrd after Ronnies death.
