It's not weird at all for a doctor to ask patients about sharing bathrooms because the virus can be easily transferred via blood or other biofluids which is not an uncommon subject in every bathroom. Although it would be much better for her doctor to provide a little context while asking the question.

Thanks for your comment, Daniel. We agree doctors and clinicians should provide greater context when asking these kind of questions. As hep B can only be passed on through direct blood-to-blood contact, or direct sexual fluids-to-blood contact, the risk of transmission through sharing bathrooms is extremely minimal. Regardless, it is always recommended that anyone sharing a residence with a person living with hep B should get vaccinated for hep B.

Can you get hepatitis from someone who was cooking dinner with a little cut on their hand?
