I found lymphedema therapy to be useless, including the $10,000 air pump things they sell you. My legs were hugely swollen and I was hospitalized with sepsis. The therapy didn't reduce my size at all, but my therapist got me sized for a FarrowWrap classic (i'm sure other brands can accomplish the same) reduction kit. It had to be custom because my leg was so large and deformed. Nearly overnight, and in a couple days following my leg size reduced dramatically. I was able to then get regular non-custom sized FarrowWraps and keep my legs wrapped for 23 hours a day. These things saved my life. My skin healed and my fibrosis softened. If I don't keep them on all day my skin will harden again and swell back up, so I have to keep them on for the 23 hours a day but I'm no longer constantly getting sick from the infections in my leg. Sometimes I use foam wrapping but I never do anything as intense as the wrapping shown in this video and it's mostly the FarrowWrap that does all the work and even with my lack of mobility I can still apply it myself with relative ease. I do have a lot of problems with it sliding down and having to rewrap it frequently but it's still better than this intense wrapping that is entirely impractical for someone like myself.

I'm less than 2 minutes in and had to pause to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for saying what my tears and painful legs have been screaming about for weeks! I cannot put on any of the countless pairs of compression socks I own. I even purchased new extra large, light compression just to try something else. (FYI I'm 5"2 and 94 pounds... There's NOTHING extra large about me except my venous insufficient legs!) Even the big ones gave me pressure type bruises at various points on both legs. I don't need more pain! You're the first pro that has said socks are for maintenance! I'm gonna restart the video and take copious amounts of notes. Bless you!

Thank you so much for this video and all of your other videos. Yes, I wish it was that easy for us with large heavy legs who do not have the ability to lift our heavy heavy legs or range of motion, bending, arm length or strength like we used to have. It’s hard to bandage from above and do it correctly and keep the bandages from falling down. For me it’s almost impossible, takes hours, tears and frustration. Could I please have your opinion on using the reduction kit systems available? I’m not mentioning a brand so you don’t feel like you are endorsing a particular product. I feel that, for myself, these type of adjustable compression wraps would be much more manageable. I have no one to help. Please respond. Thanks again!

I have had swelling in my complete left leg for the last 40 years. No one could tell my mom the problem as a child, so I bore the swelling. It wasn't until the 2000s that I found someone who told me I had Lymphedema and sent me to a therapist. The therapist placed my leg in a machine to pump the fluid but instead, the fluid went into my right leg. Now I have two swollen legs! I found another therapist at Good Shepard who did the wraps using the technique you use. It doesn't alleviate the condition but it does help.

They also need to do lymphatic drainage techniques to provide a pathway for that fluid to go. Sending the flow up to axilla (armpit) depending on medical conditions.

Thank you I went to a Lymph care clinic and they showed a slight different technique in wrapping. Your video was allot easier to follow than what they try to teach me. I didn't have a good experience there either, the Therapist were not consistent with technique in massage and wrapping. Very frustrating I know do my own massage and wrapping. I was told by Lymphadema physician that I had had too many vein removal and vein closures, made my insufficient vein problem worse. After 2 different Lymph care clinics, I had same experience that Therapist were not consistent and didn't stay in room long enough to complete 40 minutes of message as prescribed by Doctor. I have insurance delima. My United Health Dual complete said they would pay for all bandages and 40% of support stocking if the clinics would bill them correctly on part B with adequate diagnoses. The clinics told me " we don't bill this way" I'm now stuck with the bill of bandages.

We took a class to learn the proper way to wrap my brother's leg (amputated below the knee due to complications of Diabetes) as well as his other, full leg. The therapist showed us how to create a 'herring bone' pattern rather than the 'tourniquet-style' demonstrated in this video. The results were remarkable and allowed for proper blood flow.

Thanks for the video; I thought it was good check to see your recommendations. I have secondary lymphedema, and I have been bandaging my right leg for over 6 years at night. I also wear a compression stocking during the day as another component of my daily routine to manage the swelling. I no longer bandage my toes but rather wear a compression toe cap; it is much simpler and it keeps my toes from swelling. You are right about the baby toe area as being very sensitive to pressure. I always make sure that my wrapping is well below it. Thanks again!

Now, my lower legs are well managed but the thighs are like huge bowling balls. It is very frustrating. In the new year, I am being measured for compression biker shorts in hopes that will help, but sill unsure how the compression will be there with having such a large stomach. I believe for up to 23 hours per day, but always make sure you have good circulation in the toes and when you squeeze a toe it should look white then return to normal color immediately after you squeeze. Depending on your individual underlying condition, you should always consult with your doctor when using compression therapy for the proper technique.

I went into the office of a woman that does what you do and learned by watching her two times and then I did it myself. Is there any way we can communicate privately? I don't expect you to spend any lengthy amount of time, I just have a few questions. When I learned to wrap my mother's leg the woman had me do four different types of wrapping and one of them was referred to as the herring and I see that you did not do it and that is what I wanted to ask you about. My mother has a DVT where the leg meets the groin and that is what causes her problems.

Louise Occhiogrosso- If you are still interested, you can search the doctor's name on the 'net. I think she is the one in the upper mid-west. It can't hurt to ask her office.

I live in the U.K and cannot get home treatment. I have to use transport arranged to go to the clinic and have my bandaging done. It is hard to move and I would have liked home treatment. It would also be cheaper and less stress travelling to collect other patients and I may have a 3 hour there to the clinic and 3 hours home dropping patients home. Tedious

My Therapist used 1% hydrocortizone on my ankles and calves w/ regular lotion. I was able to keep a bandage wrap on for two days - over the weekend.

Doesn't all that pressure wrapping cause soft tissue injury by cutting off the blood supply? My legs would go gangrene in a couple of hours if constricted like that.

Bill. You need a compression garment with straps that Velcro. It can be removed at night or whenever and adjusted whenever as your swelling goes up or down. Don’t talk to your doctor. Talk to your lymphedema therapist. They know all about the garments

That is way too much layering-- theres no way you can work an 8 hour shift -- and you cannot wear them 24 hours a day since your mmhg compression within your lower extremities goes down while you sleep, and then the gradient compression goes back up once your on your legs again walking around etc... Unless you have stage 3 or higher you would need extra layering but not stage 2 or less.

I wrap my legs with foam and short stretch bandages every day before my 12 hour shift. I do 2 layers, only go up to knee though. I do leave mine on 24 hours. I've been looking at getting some night time compression sleeves though. I honestly don't know or understand much about the pressure, but I have seen other people say you need a different type of compression when you sleep.

Why would you use yourself as a model. This does not show your skill set in dealing with patients that actually have Lymphedema. Lots of these bandages turned into tourniquets if you really do have an enlarge leg. It would be good to see how you would use your knowledge to overcome these challenges with a patient that actually has to deal with this issue. It is Particularly harder around the larger thigh area where the bandages just do not stay. Especially if you truly have lots of edema again all the wraps/foam turns into tourniquets. This video is far from the reality of most patients with Lymphedema trying to do compressing wrapping.

Is there more to know with this kind!
