LYLE MAYS feat. Alex Acuña - Duo #1 | Spectrasonics Sessions

Музыка

We are forever indebted to the life and legendary artistry of our dear friend and hero, Lyle Mays. We were honored to spend an unforgettable day with Lyle and Alex Acuña filming for our Artist Video Series in 2010.The session featured Lyle’s incredible artistry playing Trilian and Omnisphere, completely improvised in a single take with no prior preparation. We were absolutely blown away and moved by the pure inspiration that unfolded. This is part one of that very special day.
Rest in peace, Lyle Mays.

A hundred years from now most of us won't be remembered. Yet Lyle's gift to the world, his breath taking music, will be enjoyed by those "who are here now and those who are yet to be born". Thank you God for lending Lyles to us mere mortals. He took "The Last Train" and is home now.

MrAvantgarde11 Lyle, and countless others geniuses were born on a wrong planet altogether. The overwhelming vast majority of so called “humanity” prefers putting garbage on the pedestal, instead of appreciating Greatness, that contribute to the overall progress. After all... nobody even knows where Mozart was buried (I guess that doesn’t matter at all). Anyway, you got the point. And yes, nobody will remember Lyle, but everybody will remember some empty politician, whose entire legacy was some kind of a scandal or else !

😲WOE! and a MAJOR WOW!😮 GOODNESS SAKES MAN! You keep THAT kind of COMPANY?!?!?! I must say, I'm genuinely and quite favorably impressed. You must be one rather accomplished, ripping HOT Musician yourself. The best I can claim is having met and spent some time with Alex at Church on the WAY in Van Nuys, CA. And YES, Alex is a very Sweet and Humble Dude. I Love him - he's SO easy to get on with. And he smiles a lot too. Which is just AWESOME! I had him sign a copy of "Heavy Weather", which he was tickled about. As a Bass player, I IMMEDIATELY got to the business of asking about Mr. Jaco Pastorius and then of course, we spoke of our ALL TIME FAVE SUPER·HERO·GODMAN BROTHER, KING JESUS! Our EVERYTHING! Abe Laborial was there, Sheila E was there, and some other OUTSTANDING musicians. (Sheila E is like Lena Horn, she simply does NOT age. She still looks of her George Duke era😲) It was the monthly, "Dream come TRUE", (for me anyway), after·Church Jazz Jam. I SO miss THAT, and the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills. I left L.A. in '09'. Thank GOD!!! I DO, however, MISS all that WAS genuinely COOL about So. Cal "back in the Day", as we say. I'm told that's all gone now. So you must have crossed paths, or better, with Zappa Alumni, Miles Alumni and so many more. Well C O O L ! 👍👍

I love this duo#1 more and more. Of course there is this infinitely subtle playing, the stunning technique, immaterial touch, the delicate dynamics, the breathing meter and delays, the progressing and unfolding harmonies, the 3D articulation. And there is this flow, the thematic narrative and the immense architectural span. But the one thing that fascinates me more than anything is the ease and the serene elegance. The silence ever since Feb 10 this year is all the more deafening.

I suppose we all are now suffering the stages of grief and especially difficult was that he was taken from us at such an early age. It staggered me for I just found out yesterday. I know the sadness I feel is also felt by you. There will never be another Lyle Mays and the imprint he has bestowed upon us will live on in perpetuity. We shall have a bust of Lyle and place him next to Mozart and the other Gods who's classics are still celebrated. I cannot say goodbye, Lyle. I simply hope I can fix my failure to have met you on this side. There is a hole in my heart tonight...Hang in there Pat....

Mourning the loss of such a phenomenally talented and disciplined musical genius with an burning passion for music. Been a fan from the 70's when Metheny debuted with his group. Such a crying shame that Lyle Mays was so underrated. I place Lyle up there with the likes of Bill Evans, Michael Petrucciani and Eliane Elias. The world of Music has lost a truly great musician.

Had heard this man's name a few times over the last few years, but only just recently started listening to his music. Totally blown away. Actually, I think I may have heard his playing before but just didn't know who it was. Back in the early 2000's I shared a house with a few guys from a church I used to be part of and, one of them, and English guy with eclectic tastes in music, was a Pat Metheny nut; he played the music a lot, and introduced me to all kinds of music not on my radar. I must have heard Lyle's playing. I already loved Jazz back then, but subsequently went on my own journey of music discovery, gradually getting further and further outside the mainstream; so, I guess I was ripe for appreciating what Lyle Mays had to offer when I heard the music this time around. He is beyond magician level.

I still live with the magic spelled by Still Life (Talking) since 1985 the year I first heard that album by PMG. Then I re-listened to Joni’s Shadow and Light.
