LX Ranch: Selecting Fresh Horses For Spring Roundup 2005

The LX Ranch cowboys have already spent a week rounding up and working cattle 10 miles east. Another week of work begins before sunrise in the morning, so fresh horses are brought in from pasture. A few are chosen from the herd for work duty and the rest are returned to pasture for another day off. Sorry for the wind noise but I lost the windscreen earlier in the day due to those pesky West Texas Winds! Look for more videos from the LX Ranch and others and please subscribe for more in 2018! #LXRanch #CowHorse #RanchLife #HeritagePreservation #AmericanHeartlands

Yes, it is good to see outfits that take great care of their horses and work them enough to keep them from getting lazy or bored but not so much that they get worn out. All of these horses seem to really enjoy getting saddled up and going to work. There are a few in the remuda who have been retired and yet they will often line up at the fence and watch the younger ones show off their stuff.

@@DustyReinsStories: You might want to check-out a well-documented ranching family from the Island of Hawaii, The Parker Ranch. Dr. Billy Bergin (Ranch Historian and Veternarian), wrote a book called "Loyal to the Land The Legendary Parker Ranch" You can purchase the book through Amazon. I've met him on the island of Maui, back in the year of 1974, my uncle was the supervisor for the ranch that I was raised on and Dr. Bergin used to fly over from the Big Island of Hawaii to check on the artificial-insemination cattle breeding & livestock operations. If you ever do make plans to cover a ranch stories from Hawaii, I suggest you go and check with the Parker Ranch main office (cattle operations) on the Island of Hawaii, I'm certain they'll be able to assist you, also, it is a full-time working cattle ranch, so scheduling is a must for an heads-up advanced call.

There have been some questions about how much these working ranch American Quarter Horses are worth. I recently attended an auction of 153 mounts offered up near Guthrie, Texas on the 6666 Ranch by six breeding ranches for the 2018 Return to the Remuda sale. This video link begins with the lower sales amounts but the highest bid horse sold for $51,000. Links to more about the horses and sale appear in the description below the video. - kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKKrxcZ-YZrSiLA.html

The LX is one of the historic ranches of Texas. Lee Bivins began his cattle empire during the late 1800's and eventually became one of the largest landholders in North America. The ranch today reflects many of the traditions carried over from the cattle barons of the Great Plains.

A big factor is which horses need to be worked to keep them from getting lazy. Another factor is that some of the cowboys know how to handle the horses so they become better at their jobs so they get paired up. Some of the younger horses just need more working experience.
