Thanks to the EJHearn Archive for the clip.
If someone could give an exact year for when this clip was broadcast that would be appreciated.

Thank you for this of course-very nice it is too. The music that LWT had then with their IBA start up was spot on too-10 out of 10 of course really too for sure in fact! I know that ident was used up until 1978 from what I have read before, before it was then modified later on so too. Well done!

How was anyone supposed to know what to tune their TVs to? If you could see this, your TV is obviously already tuned to the right frequency!

1972 at the earliest, as it was the ITA before that. But with no programme menu or opening credits of a programme, it would be very difficult to put an exact date to it.

I understand this, I thought it would be easy to pin an exact date because of the transmitter sites shown. I’ve seen a startup of LWT from 1977 and there were more transmitters than in this clip.

@@ibaclips1663 Bluebell Hill and Great Missenden transmitters both opened in 1974 and as they are not listed on this caption, then i think the caption is definitelty pre 1974.

post 12 July 1972, but before Bluebell Hill came online in July 1974. Not sure when the ITV companies had to show the IBA branding, but thats the earliest and latest dates

Hilary Osborn is the announcer in this recording, so the sound must date between 1979 and 1981 because afterwards Pam Rhodes provided the voice-over after Hilary left.

Whilst true about Osborn’s time doing announcements for LWT, the IBA stopped using the “Transmitters in service” screen in 1978. The same year, the LWT logo was updated to one different in this video. Are you sure it’s Hilary Osborn doing the announcement?

The reason why she and Verity Martindill left at the same time was their inability to be able to read the local news bulletins from January 1982, as per the company's franchise proposals and promises which was why they were replaced by Sue Peacock and Pam Rhodes.

It would appear the voiceover may not match the footage. The imagery is certainly not 1979 onwards as London Weekend phased out the river ident in 1978 and replaced it with the stylised LWT lettering.

And being 1972 another Sunday of absolute crap starting with adult education, religion, politics, some rubbish afternoon film, more religion and nothing will really get going until 7.15 tonight!
