Saddest day in tv history. Brought tears to my eye when LWT ended. LWT was unique and was the best way to look forward for no school for 2 days as a child and weekend at grandparents house

London Weekend Television (known as LWT) lasted 34 years on TV. May the channel rest in peace.

This was the final continuity from London Weekend Television. The farewell was live from the South Bank, and these announcers bid farewell to LWT itself!!

I miss the LWT days ☹️

Always nice when people who actually love and care about TV get the chance to do something like this. British TV is terrible at respecting its own history, blithely tearing down iconic TV studio buildings and dumping much loved on screen identities.

This September they are going to demolish the old London Studios, formerly LWT headquarters, after moving all of their programmes to the refurbished Television Centre in London. What a shame. It should have been made part of the British heritage.

​@MondySpartan In our conclusion, this in-vision farewell tribute, as I believe, was LIVE for real, and also, the final start-up for London Weekend Television was live on the same day (27th October 2002). End of story.

And Carlton. For hoovering up all the franchises and homogenising them, but yes Granada fought a protracted battle for LWT.

Goodbye London weekend television thank you all the programme on tv from 1968 to 2002

The night before ITV stood for total crap coming to you 7 days a week.

Has there been any other instances where the ITV announcers are shown on camera instead of just hearing their voices in the recording booth? The only other occasion I see this happening was in the final closedown of ATV and Southern on New Years Day January 1st 1982 being replaced by Central and TVS respectively

We had the head of thames doing a monologue on new years eve 1992. Just before Michael greens hated Carlton took over.

LWT was CARLTON now.

And thus regional identity was killed and ITV became what they fought hard NOT to be for 47 long years......A generic national channel. Though I guess Digital TV and the increase of channels amounted to that drastic decision that they took.

Trish I beleve still does connuity for SKY and Channel 5. Disabled UK Carrer. who lives in the New Forest. GOD BLESS!

She makes voice In idents like BSB Galaxy, and Super Channel when joined LWT as a Freelancer .

WHY DON'T WE HAVE AN INVESTIGATION, LWT LOVERS?

As from now becomes ITV 1

This channel could have retained its local branding. Granada just went for the money. as usual

I grew up in Granadaland and believe me the idents were shocking and it was just corporate, too corporate. I used to visit my ex bf in London from 2000-2001 and that ident reminds me of weekends away, good times. LWT should have fought hard to keep their individuality as it was a good one.

it's a shame as . regional TV was far more better . back then .
