Luxury Sport SUV on a Budget: 2022 Genesis GV70 2.5T AWD Advanced

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

What do you do when you are a growing automotive brand in the ever-competitive market with an excellent sport sedan that many compare to the greats of BMW but the sales just aren't there? You create a luxury brand, produce a luxury version of said sedan, and also a crossover based on the same platform… you know, since SUVs are all the rage. Enter the 2022 Genesis GV70.
This spectacular vehicle is just the latest entry from Hyundai Motor's new Genesis luxury brand focused on stealing market share from established players like Acura and Lexus. With the bones of the Kia Stinger, the shape of an athletic crossover, and the face of a Bentley, the team at Genesis seems to have a winning formula on their hands.
We were able to sample this 2022 Genesis GV70 2.5T AWD Advanced for a full week on our home turf and could not get enough. The look, the luxurious touches, and the athletic and playful personality of this car stole my heart. Be sure to subscribe to see what my wife thinks when that video drops later this week.

Hey team, Thx for the review - Well done!! The GV70 offers a wide variety of modes for the driver to enjoy. As I approach 60 yrs old (and I'm a bit of a car guy) I totally love the luxury & comfort side of vehicles BUT also what to turn it up when I can. This GV70 3.5TT should really be about $20-$50K higher priced. It simply does everything really well and is 2nd to none is this segment when it comes to ride quality, comfortness, quietness all while surrounding the occupants with massive luxury features. It is called the baby Bentayga for many reasons. It is so quiet & refined when you want it to be - When you're stuck in traffic or going no where fast. My wife asked me if it was an EV as it was so quiet. Those double paned windows really make a huge difference. Plus the massaging seat is nice!! When you want to drive spiritedly switch it into Sports + mode and you easily hear the roar of the engine and the sweet exhaust notes while enjoying the rear wheel driving bias sporty experience. In comparison, the RDX A Spec it an excellent top rated vehicle but that engine is super noisy vs the GV70 and its a much more stiffer ride. Plus I wasn't impressed with the 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds to the GV 70's of 5.7 (4.9 seconds in the V-6). And the RDX weighs 450 lbs less. Its the luxury components/options, higher tech, standard features & options, the ride quality (can be extremely quiet & smooth AND aggressive and sweet exhaust notes) that makes this GV 70 THE clear winner in segment. Overall the CLEAR winner for me the is the GV70 3.5TT in Sport trim level. I'll take it in that Gorgeous Mauna Red exterior colour with 2 tone interior combination please:-) In Canada that full load price is $76,500 plus taxes. The F&PDI is included in that price. No discounts from that at all. The electrified version is coming out in 2023 but in Canada the top trim level will be about $25K-$35K higher cost to the ICE version. Besides its NO Gas requirement the EV version is a littler quicker with 0-60 times 4.3 to 4.6 seconds. For me I'd put down my deposit yesterday if the EV version had a time in the 3.5 second range. It will have a 500 kms range on a full charge. PS - Lots of dealer problems with Genesis in the States. Here in Vancouver No problems at all. I have 3 dealers within 40 minutes and the nearest is 15 mins away. Cheers all!!

Nice review. I got lucky, bought my GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige (Uyuni white over red/charcoal) last November, paid MSRP. Since then the same dealer marks every model up $5K and they are constantly sold out. Now a pre-order is the only way to get MSRP, and there's a LONG wait. The car is brilliant, the top trim matches anything (owner Germans and Jags in the past), tech is class leading, fit and finish is excellent, interior design language is clean, great value with price and warranty. It matches the SQ5 in performance, slower than the X3M40i and GLC43, but unless 0-60 is your priority the Genesis is a winner in real world driving, and 0-60 in 4.8 is still pretty quick. The 2.5T will be the volume seller, the 3.5TT in Sport Prestige trim would be $10K more if it had a German badge and comparably equipped. Owned a lot of nice vehicles in my 72 years, the GV70 is easily my favorite.............

I couldn't agree with you more! My wife and I took a 2023 for a test drive. We had a 2022 Lincoln Corsair which we liked very much but after the test drive, we just couldn't get back into our Lincoln. It was like shopping at Target then being introduced to Neiman Marcus for the first time. There was no comparison! You feel like you are in something special, and it is! Ride and quality are 5 stars with excellent electronics! It has a fantastic sound system as well. Before you buy any small luxury SUV you must test drive the Genesis GV70!

Picked up the 2.5L Advanced on Monday! LOVE it, and I am about as giddy as you are! 😄Spot on review! I think the only reason you are getting a better car for less money than the BMW, Mercedes GL etc. is because they are trying to break into the market. Already the 24 version of this model has dropped some features (parking assist, leather...) so that you need to get the Prestige to get what the 2023 Advanced has now. I love the Mauna Red with black interior myself.

Greetings this is very well done - thank you! I'm in the market for a GV70 2.5T AWD in 2024; Your most enthusiastic and informative auto review is quite refreshing as your sincerity & heartfelt appreciation for Genesis echoes in volumes of how appreciative you feel for being allowed the experience of their decision to build this model. I was comparing GV70 and Q5. I liked the GV70 better, but their leasing price was cost more than Q5 even though actual sticker price is cheaper than Q5. So I had to choose Q5 Sportback instead. If you want GV70, it's better to buy instead of leasing.

They are selling as many as they can build. That's not as many as other lines since they haven't ramped up yet. The wait times in Canada are 6-8 months but some people are getting them in 3-4. I have one on order myself...2 months into that wait. The value does seem clear to me but there are Hyundai Haters that are talking it down constantly, all who have no real information on it...all anecdotal. It will do very well despite chip shortages and rising interest rates. It is hard to wait!

Our warranty is only 5yr/100K - not the same as USA - My advice is: once warranty is about to expire.. Get Out Quick! As for me.. I'm waiting for upgraded infotainment in Acura RDX 2025. bol.
