Luxury is that which can be repaired | Hermès Footsteps Across The World

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Pushing open the door of one of Hermès’ fifteen repair workshops around the world is like entering a magicians’ den, where the passage of time is made to disappear.
In Hong Kong, on the 22nd floor of a tower in the Admiralty district where they have laid out their tools, Christelle, Farid and Alexandre save their best tricks for objects that have a past. Unseen and unnoticed, these experienced artisans, trained in French leather goods workshops, make a well-loved bag look new again, by changing a handle, retouching an area of color or using the saddle stitch.
Restoring, repairing, it’s what their “metier” is all about.

Welcome to the world of Hermès:
In 1837 Thierry Hermes opened his workshop making the finest quality harnesses and saddles in the heart of Paris.
Today Hermes is still a family company whose craftspeople make, often by hand and always with love , bags and belts, diaries and dishes, scarves and shoes, perfumes and purses, ties and travelling furniture, as well as gloves, hats, watches, jewellery and clothes.

I was really touched when he discovered that a bag he'd created in France was now in his hands 15 years later in Hong Kong! Who could say that about their work? Fascinating. This is why Hermès is so frightfully expensive. But it is also why they are the very best.

The price has nothing to do with the production cost and quality. The value lies in how much people are willing to pay for the exclusivity and prestige. If you look into the deconstruction of the value, including the cost of the work, the pricing is astonishing. It's expensive purely for the image. What a world we live in.

@@Zeverinsen they also control the number of products released thus increasing its value because of exclusivity. However, if you think about it, the resale value is actually much more expensive than what hermes is selling it for which would make this bag a worthwhile investment to other people.

In a world of mass production, trends, and disposable items, Hermés strives to make products such as their bags to have more value and quality that's worth keeping for years. Craftsmanship is something rare these days. It's nice that Hermés still continues their traditions. I think that back in the day, there were many craftsmen who made quality leather items who aren't well known and didn't have the capital to expand their business, and after they retire, they leave works of art in the hands of their customers who will use them for many many years. It's nice that Hermés has able to sustain itself and maintain their quality and brand prestige for this long. They're able to do this by being a family owned company. The way these artisans repair the bags, it's so calming and gentle.

The art of making and refurbishing these handbags is a total figurative way of describing life where something precious begins at birth and then constantly given a chance to improve the over all quality throughout the years of 'wear and tear' to withstand more test of time. Some people might think about this as a superficial thought, but the sentimental value these bags have with its artisans who made it and the owners who owns it evokes a whole sense of connection and memories. If odds would be in my favor, I'd be honored to have one of these precious hand bags in the future amid its worth and exclusivity. :)

Simply beautiful 🤍🤍 I was very moved by the whole meaning of “repair”. Hermès bags are pieces of art!

Most leather can be repair. But the cost of repair sometime outweigh the cost of buying new one and just sold the old one.
