We only had one night in Amsterdam, and we were fairly jet-lagged so we took it easy. Really just napping, grabbing a few drinks around the hotel and getting to bed early so we can wake up the next morning to head out early. We used miles to stay at the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam for one night, which is a beautiful newer eco hotel which really incorporates being green into their footprint with gardens and tons of indoor plants.
Anyway, we head out early to catch the train to a new country. We really wanted to utilize train travel on this trip due to the ongoing issues with airlines, airport security and luggage handling. So we decided to tackle Europe via trains, and if we had to fly to bring only carry-on for our 3 week trip.
So off we go to….Luxembourg! It was 70 euros or $76 USD each for train tickets. It's 2.5 hours to Belgium, a quick 20 min layover and then another 3 hours to Luxembourg. These trains are fairly basic, so make sure to grab plenty of drinks and snacks for the trip.
We finally make it to Luxembourg! We weren't able to grab SIM cards when in Amsterdam and there weren't any readily accessible at the train station so we decided to forego buying them for now. We have to ask the ticket desk for some help but we're told to take a train and then a bus to the hotel. We've heard Luxembourg is expensive and hotels definitely seem that way. We were able to use miles to book the Double Tree Luxembourg, which was 373 euros for the night. And the hotel is 20 minutes outside the city center. The good thing is that public transit is FREE!!! So It's off onto a train and bus to the hotel. We even get upgraded to a suite at the hotel due to our status, thanks to having Hilton credit cards.
We head out to explore. Luxembourg is built on a big hill so it's divided into upper and lower levels. To get around, there are lots of elevators, including the famous #panaromicelevatorofthePfaffenthal. We take to elevator down to the #Pfaffenthal area and wander, finding a cool public footpath which Chris had to check it. Man, that water was COLD. We also check out the Bock Casemates. The actually gallery and underground tunnels were closed, but we were able to check out the city walls and saw a few small underground lookouts. Then it's onto the city center and the Ducal Palace. We find some busy sidewalk cafes and stop for dinner and drinks. Then it's some late night kebob and catching the night bus back to our hotel. Overall, it was a fun, and not super expensive day in Luxembourg.
The next morning, we enjoy free breakfast (thanks to our Hilton status) and figuring out our plan for the day, including where to go and to get a hotel. Stay tuned to find out what's next for us…..

Hi! We're Chris and Tracy. We're from the Los Angeles area. We've been married since 2009! Chris grew up traveling with his family and Tracy caught the travel bug during our honeymoon. And we've been on the go since as much as our jobs allow.
We try to plan 3-4 "big" trips a year. In total, we have been to 64 countries together (Chris is at 75 total himself). The biggest thing that we have taken away from this is how to be savvy while traveling. At first, we took a lot of cruises because they were easy. However, we met some new friends on a cruise who told us to come visit them in Malaysia and that was our first trip that we planned all on our own. Let's say it was a great trip but we made a few mistakes, like severely overpaying for our taxi in Bali. However, we have used everything as a learning experience. We really love the logistics of planning trips and getting the best deals and experiences. And it would be selfish to keep this knowledge to ourselves!
We have lots of friends and family come to us for advice or helping planning. So why not expand our audience and help everyone out! Our motto in life is champagne taste on a beer budget, or more correctly, a 5 star hotel taste for a hostel price.

Oh, no!!! Poor Helen. Glad it looks like you guys are okay. Helen looks like she will be spending some time at a body shop then have to go to Forest City for a rebuild. Hope your black tank was empty when you got hit. As always, looking forward to seeing where you end up next.........

About 6 weeks of repair and $32k in bills. Luckily we had a local Winnebago repair person who put Humpty Dumpty back together almost perfect.
