Lupron Wearing Me Down- Part 1

Going into my 3rd year on Lupron the cumulative side effects are really dragging me down. Between shrinking bones and muscles and new joint pain appearing weekly it is getting hard to keep my chin up (of course that could also be the muscle wasting 🙄). I have just lost my gumption and motivation since the start of the year and wonder how to pull myself out of this rut.

Oh yeah, I completely understand. A little over a year on Eligard. Fatigue, leg pain, some lightheadedness, some days feeling like crap. Weird feeling, light headed at times, sudden surprise poops. Yes, it all gets old. Happy with the .0004 PSA though.

ADT was first discovered in the mid-60's, and I find it nearly impossible to believe that nothing has been discovered in the intervening years that can take its place. I'm currently on my first dose of Lupron (eventually to have 3 years of it) and I am also on Zytiga for 2 years because of having a stage 4 recurrence of my prostate cancer. In my case I have dabbled in most of the known side effects, with some staying around a few weeks, while others are with me till this day.

I hope the sacrifices and effort you've put in during these few years will pay dividends of many years of cancer-free living to come. Thanks for the update and here's to getting the oomph back to continue with your healthy habits!

I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer at age 66 on top of type 1 diabetes and cervical spine degeneration. I am now 69. I am manageing managing my cancer using the new oral drug Orgovyx and taking liberal holidays allowing my testosterone and PSA to climb. You and your doctor have to decide but for me life without some testosterone is just not worth living. I know i will never be cured but I'm not going to live as a bag of brittle bones sitting on the couch.

We gotta lift when we’re old, the Lupron just makes it more so. Even the dedicated runners and hikers eventually pay the price of muscle wasting if they don’t lift. Lupron is just gas on that fire. I can almost promise that if you lift as regularly and intensely as you safely can your Lupron side effects will be minimal.

my experience is continuous and consistent lifting is warding off most of the side effects and I've had zero weight gain (weight loss of around 25 pounds more due to elimination of sugars and simple carbs).

What's frightening doctors in American are giving this to prepubescent children who have been deluded into believing by an ideology they're body is the wrong sex. The side effects are frightening and in children can't be regained.

Don't count your blesses yet pal. They say that but wait till your time is up. I bet they want to extend it. They want to make more money. With this medication that makes you sick and sicker instead of better. I am through with all hormone treatments. I refuse it all. And guess what. I'm doing better. With just radiation!!!!!!

You really do have to question the medical profession and their treatments and the side effects. From what you've described over your many videoswas it really worth it? So many people I know are no better and often worse after a a medical procedure. Apart from putting you back together after an accident you really do wonder ... I wish you well. Thanks again for telling us what the doctors don't tell us or play down or as you said, undersold.

Thank you for sharing this video. Just thought I'd parallel my story... I'm not on Lupron, but I'm 61 and on Nubeqa and Orgovyx since March '23, which are also ADT's not greatly dissimilarto yours even though I take them daily. On top of that, just about to get my 6th infusion of Lutetium (trial). After 8 months, fighting hard to maintain muscle mass and bone density. Original PSA was 525, Gleason 7, which was initially terrifying, and now 1.0. I'm maintaining so far by rigorous weight lifting, push-ups, pull-ups, and various torso-strengthening exercises. I'm doing these 2-3 times a day. I'm fully plant-based (tomatoes, tomato paste, broccoli, sprouts, fellel, arugula, spinach, etc.) except for daily intakes of sardines and salmon. Supplements are D3 with K2 (MK-7), Magnesium Glycinate and Magnesium L-Threonate, Milk Thistle (for liver), 5-HTP, Melatonin (good research out there than it can prevent cancers growing blood vessels), Flaxseed powder, MCT Oil, Amla Powder, and Pea Protein for post-workouts. For me, not a lot of hot flashes, but amplification of anxiety (some depression) and strange mood alterations. I find working out usually works these off. Very little libido impact for me, which my Doc is surprised by, and still sexually active. Skeletal muscle mass is 75.8, total body fat percentage is 8.3 (low), body fat mass is 12.3 (under also), lean mass is 57.3, and most blood work is normal. No weight gain as I'm off all sugars and most carbs, although now working out with Vegan carb-based formula. BWI score is 9.5/10, and Bio Age is 51. It's a depressing situation at times, but, like you, I'm fighting through it. I really wish you all the best, parristx.

Nice presentation thanks. In the UK 18 months ADT is considered the most needed for one course but depends on the PSA and Biopsy results on diagnosis. Could you pass on to us you PSA and Gleason score on diagnosis please? I was 3 + 4 = 7 and PSA 6.6. Thanks again. Peter

Eighteen months I think I could have bounced back from. After three years I find I haven't much bounce left! At diagnosis my PSA was about 32 and my Gleason score was 9. Ergo the three long years.

I was listening to a Dr. Geo Espinoza episode about doing weight bearing exercises to minimize the loss of bone density. I've not been doing any weight lifting but need to start. I was 6'4" and can already tell I'm just a bit shorter. And I'm confident that all my weight loss so far has been muscle loss. How can wew help each other commit to doing some upper body workout? The loss of motivation on this treatment makes doing any kind of workout plan challenging.

Your bones aren't shrinking. They are losing calcium. Your shrinking is likely caused by the discs of your spine degenerating.

But you're alive....a few aches and pains, continual hot sweats etc.....is it worth it? My psa was 24, 3 years ago and I've had radiation and hormone treatment (decapeptyl 6 mthly injections- similar to lupron). I was a weight trainer before prostate cancer and I just carried it on with long walks on alternative days. I have lost strength and after 3 years I have stopped the hormone treatment. My last psa test was undetectable so now that I'm off the hormone treatment, I'm awaiting my next test in September.....fingers crossed. They say it takes the same amount of time as your injection period to get the drugs out of your system....I still get many hot sweats and a few aches and pains and I'm only a month or 2 out of the hormone treatment period.....I'm hoping that the sweats and aches will pass soon....cheers

Congrats on getting through three years of ADT! My testosterone took some time to start coming back up after I finished my Lupron treatment. It is in the normal range now and I can definitely feel the difference. Three months after my final Lupron shot began wearing off my testosterone was at 270. At six after months it was at 410. So hang in there! 💪💪
