Since I shot some stuff for a short video, I thought I could shoot this as well. Needed to eat anyway.

Really great video ! Looks like a georgous day . No snow, not too hot and NO BUGS !! . I've been bucking up some small stuff on a sleeper log this morning. Some of it , small enough that i came back to the house to get my little Stihl 600 gram hatchet. But some of it big enougy to warrent a full size , or 3/4 axe

Thanks, I should have put in a few hours more working for money, as I spoke of in the video, but the weather was too nice not to get the axe out a bit first. The bugs will come later in the summer. Last year the mosqitoes were a pain. Due to all the rain, another kind than the usual ones hatched. Those eggs lay dorment for many years and only hatch when heavy rain cause otherwise dry areas to flood. And those mosqitoes are more aggressive. It was no fun being out in the forest then. We also went on a first fishing trip with our son Samson, just over a month old then. When the sun set they were everywhere. We had mosqitonets, but they found their way into the van at night. So now, his immune system knows what that is. He had so many stings that it caused a fever reaction. Apparently, that is common when small babies have their first encounter with these bugs. Hopefully this summer will be different. I’m also thinking of bringing a hatchet to my woodcutting site to deal with all the tops and branches, seems like the reasonable thing to do.

My favorite bush lunch is lighting a fire, and warming up a can of beans or stew. Nice way to take a break.

Any excuse to sit by a fire in the woods is good! I think I’m going to make a little bit more dedicated fireplace later, to make cooking easier.

Thanks. Yes, it’s a pretty nice spot. The owner of the forest is a biologist, among other things, and he’s trying to maintain the land with biodiversity in mind. Usually we have a lot of pine and spruce plantations here in Sweden, not that much old forestland left, so it’s nice to be in an environment such as this.

I was wondering why you were risking your new axe on the on the floor of the forest, But, I don't like to be critical, however sleeper logs should work! 🤪

The axemodels I use are designed for chopping close to the ground … but then you have to be very precise and not cut too low, which is pretty hard to do on every single cut. So sleeper logs helps a lot. They also affect the angle of impact, since they raise the log up a bit, so the axe hits more like 45 degrees on top of the log instead of right on the side of it, but that’s just the way it is I guess.
