🍍Did you know the Hokkien and Cantonese word for pineapple “ong lai” literally translates to “fortune come”? Pineapples are a symbol of prosperity and good luck during the Lunar New Year season.
Some Asian cultures will have unblemished pineapples as offerings at their ancestral altars at home, while others in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, China and Taiwan would serve the fruit in dishes like pineapple tarts or in prosperity hampers with other auspicious fruits.
