If you've been keeping up with the Redding nest - the cam has been a bit up & down as of late. During a period of particular instability, on June 11, ground crews noticed that Luna could not be spotted in the nest. Both eaglets were sighted in nest that morning. Luna is 11 weeks old. Here are some clips, once the cam came back up and Luna was no longer on nest.
To the best of my understanding, there have been no confirmed sightings of Luna, but she is said to have "fledged". Some updates from the Friends of Redding Eagles Facebook Page include:
"...Luna is 11 weeks old as of yesterday so she is old enough to take that “leap of faith”. She also has a large enough wingspan to float down to the ground if she decided to bail out due to the extremely hot temps we’ve been having in Redding, CA this week..."
"6/12/24, AND Dreams do come true. YT is back streaming. Take a look everyone. Our Sol and Liberty are in the nest. We don't have eyes on our Luna quite yet, but we aren't getting any indicators that she is in any distress so we expect she is doing just fine.
When Mike was down at the nest area earlier he did not hear her vocalizing or any sounds of distress calls. When an eaglet is in distress they are typically very vocal. Plus, if she was in any distress, Liberty and Guardian would be acting very differently and we have not seen that either. Just look at Liberty, She is doing her best to coax her youngest down to the river too."
"6/13/24, We had two ground crew reports this evening. Mike reported Liberty and Guardian were down in the Family Tree area. He did not see or hear Luna. Guardian left a short time later, but Liberty hung out..."
