You do noise reduction in post because majority of in camera noise reduction is terrible, it gives you a blotchy muddy mess instead of a cleaner look via NR in a software such as Davinci Resolve, this of course is locked behind the Studio version but i've had it for years and years and it makes any footage look gorgeous in low light while retaining detail.

Going below the recommended ISO for vlog creates more data in the shadows, but also loses data in the highlights WAY faster. Traditionally if you want more data in the shadows, lower ISO’s will get you there, and higher ISO’s will push more data in the highlights. This will often reduce the amount of overall dynamic range but stack more data in the highlights or shadows. Which is why shadows will clip faster in higher ISO’s above the base ISO, and highlights will clip faster below the base LOG ISO. The recommended ISO’s for VLOG just sort of offers an even amount of, and usually the most, dynamic range divided between the highlights and shadows. So you’re not necessarily getting more dynamic range across different ISO ranges, you’re shifting the dynamic range data collected across the highlights, midtones, and shadows. I mean, it’s even more complicated than that, but it’s a good way to sort of grasp what’s happening when you push the ISO around from the recommended base ISO’s for VLOG.

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the detailed feedback back! I personally still get a lot of vlog when I go lower than the recommended ISO. You just gotta to know how to color grade it properly and expose right !

New subscriber here . Your videos are very informative and creative . I’ve been with Panasonic for a while and last week purchased the Sony Fx30 and immediately returned it after a few days and will be receiving the S5iix . Sony isn’t as user friendly as Panasonic and is way behind . The GH5 was way ahead of its time

The image quality on the Sony look better in low light but not if you have more light available. If low light is not an issue the Panasonic s5ii and sh1 is much smoother and cinematic on skin tones . Sony shines with reality tv shows ,KZread , low light but image over Panasonic :no . If u go to social media channels where ppl switched to the Sony from Panasonic sh1 , subscribers complained about the footage looking better on the sh1 . S5ii is near identical just no o filter on front
