    Actually, that's an easy tree. It had a protruding spur off both sides of the face, which if executed right, which is basically what he did, can be used for the hinge points and you get zero chance of fiber pull in the logs. I cut very high end veneer trees, white oak and walnut mostly. Those are cut with "postage stamp" hinges or more often no hinge at all on trees 3 or more feet in diameter and still smash a pop can fifty feet away. Why we get paid the big bucks.

    Wanted to tell you a couple of things. First we have so much work to do that we hired a couple of young guys to apprentice and hopefully stay on full time as our little family run Logging Operation has really taken off far FAR better than we hoped but anyway I started them both out with the On line Video Course that All Canadian west coast loggers have to take. Once they finished those and passed the actual in the Timber safety and how to part of the course... (they would watch 4 hours of Videos and a written test then the last 4 hours of the day they were out in the woods with our Son and I putting what they learned to use) ...our Son and I will alternate them between us as we work till they have learned all the proper and safe ways to fall timber. I also show them some of the Videos of your Friend ( the little harvester ) as you call him and one other friend of ours who does you tube videos of their family logging operation as well so they can see how others do things. It's turned out so far to be working great....both young guys are smart and want to do things the right way and are hard workers and both understand just how dangerous this way of earning a living can be if your not on your toes and paying attention all the time. Thanks to you both for sharing what we all love to do.

    @Michael Fresh yes they did after me spending about a week with them tagging along watching my Son and I. They actually took off real well till the Whole Carona Virus thing put a hitch in our get along. One of them lived with his Maternal Grandparents and his grandfather was at serious risk due to health issues so he decided to stay home and help them out (a decision we stood behind telling him his job will be here if he still wants it after all this is over) and the other young guy is still working with us every day and a very bright young guy. If he is a representative of his generation.....were in good hands.

  • @IRONHORSE427RACING

    @IRONHORSE427RACING

    @Michael Fresh Just thought I would give you a little update, The other young guy we hired came back to work just about the time we were really needing him back or hire on someone else, anyhow his Sister moved back here from Northern California and she is taking care of the Grandparents and our young guy (Eddie) and his girlfriend rented a nice cabin not too far from our home and Shop and boy is it ever nice having them both back to work full time. My Son runs the Cutting crew and I run the harvester and skidder and when they run up against something they are not sure of they walk away as we taught them and then later maybe that same day or week we make a learning lesson out of it like a field class....( You should have seen their eyes when I got the PERFECT chance to show what a barber chair is and why it kills so many....so fast)...anyhow were working 2 weeks straight then I give them 2 days in a row off but the Son and I we just keep plugging along cause we know the wind and storms are coming and besides if we need a day or afternoon off we just grab our Rifle an go hunting or Fishing Rod an go fishing...the fall when the tourists go home and the water gets cold again is the best time here to catch Trout and we love to eat 'em so we put what we is legal to have in our freezer every fall, that plus we Elk & Deer hunt with Bow and rifle every time we get a chance...so there is plenty of days off coming.....gotta cut while the cutting is good. Every log on our landings have already been graded, tagged numbered and sold, were just waiting till the Mill calls telling us to bring em in before we start loading out.

    WTF with so many comments on safety, he got on all the safety gear, it is his choice. I have all the gear, I cut in my flip flop, no glove, helmet and in my shorts on my 5 aces, took down 400 trees. If I was on a client sit, then I am safely all the way so my client feel good and potential customers. I watch to learn and the enjoyment of the chain saw.

    Why the bread slicer? Personally I like a little bigger saw with a longer bar. Less work and easier on the back.

    @@marianalexandrupzepolschi9337 oh ok. I never heard of one. I have a 562XP. I think it is the best power to weight ratio of all the saws. I imagine that a 560 is very similar.
