So a little bit of a correction to the history of the hilts mentioned. There were like 6 stunt hilts made for obiwan in a new hope, at least 2 machined which included the main dueling stunt (used in the fight scene with Vader) and what’s known as the death saber (biggest difference is the death saber has a much smaller emitter face). The other Obi stunts were mostly casts of the Wooden buck they made with a special lathe used for copying objects the most famous of which was the v3, but there’s also the “warehouse stunt” scene in BTS rehearsals for Empire and this like the v3 didn’t have a motor and instead a blade was just locked into place. One of these is even used by Vader in a lot of the empire duel. Once ROTJ started the production crew grabbed the v2 to use as Luke’s new saber, and by then the all black paint had been mostly worn off giving it the like we know. They also build the Yuma as a short bladed stunt for non dueling scenes on the sail barge that needed a blade. Throughout the film the Yuma would be modified, adding a circuit card, and painting the buttons black which is what you see in Vaders hands on the bridge. Much later the control box would be swapped out to have LEDs, a new set of black buttons, a new set of copper rails, and a circuit reveal inside the box for the cave scene which would be deleted from the film. There’s a ton of research published in the Replica Prop Forum (RPF) for anyone who wants to read into the nitty gritty details.

This is my problem with this Korbanth Vee-Yuma. It uses a V2 body with the Knob and Boot Stud when it should a V1 Body

I love this saber. But those back two greeblies don’t belong on a Yuma saber. And that’s supposed to be a tri-ring. It’s still a gorgeous piece though. Great review.

This is all wrong. I keep emailing Korbanth with no response. He used the V2 as the base and then calling it accurate. It's WRONG. The hero/v1 started off as the Yuma. The V2 has nothing to do with the Yuma prop.

This is a great video and I really enjoy your reviews. This hilt however does have some issues. I think Korbanth is a great installer and distributor but they aren’t always as accurate as they can be. Unfortunately this hilt is one of those instances. The main body of this hilt is just their V2 version with a slightly different paint job on the neck. I do this the collectables and presentation are good. Just wish they’d go on here extra mile with accuracy

Thanks I appreciate it. I think the idea was to make it a combination of the V2 and the Yuma. I don't think they were going for a complete replica of either hilt though.

I talked with Randy, the owner, and the saber does come with the option to remove the pieces/knobs at the bottom of the hilt. So if you do that, it will be a more accurate version of the vee yuma.

The knurled knob is the chassis retention screw, so if you want to remove it, we will include a replacement screw that is sunk in and hiddenb to act as chassis retension, so you can remove those two pieces on the back end, if you want it to look closer to the saber. This saber is stainless steel and designed by Shadowfoil and simply is our version of a Yuma hilt.

@@korbanthsabers You have to see the folly in your decision though. I get that you are maybe just trying to sell the VeeTwo stock you had, but making a Yuma with a V2 body makes as much sense as making a ROTS Anakin with a Graflex Flashgun. If you wanted something a little closer, you should've used the VeeTwo stock to make a V3 run. That would've made more sense as the V2 and V3 are more similar than the Yuma and V2. Yuma should've been a Hero V1 body, period.
