My wife passed away unexpectedly at 39 just a few months ago. While going through some of her things, I found this song on one of her playlists. I vaguely remembered the original, but had never heard this version by Luke Evans. I cannot make it through without shedding tears, but I wouldn't change that for the world. This hauntingly beautiful rendition is the song of my broken heart to her as it tries to mend. It captures the intimate memories shared with my beloved wife, almost as if I am reliving them, if even for a brief moment, every time I listen. I frequently find myself putting it on repeat and just savoring the memories. For that, I am ever grateful that Luke Evans recorded this. Thank you, sir.

I fell in love with this song for the first time as a young soldier, sung by a blonde soldier on a steel string guitar a few weeks before leaving for Vietnam in 1967, I never forgot it. To this day, it moves me to tears!

My beloved soulmate, my best friend, my wife, my Irene, passed away from cancer this past Feb at the age of 50. This song kills me. I cry so hard. I just discovered it a month ago. I try to listen to it every day. I love her so much. She loved me more and harder. I will never be loved like that again. We started dating when I was 18 and she was 17. Married 9 years later. 34 years together. We grew up together. Built an amazing life together. Raised 6 children. 3 biological and three of my nieces who we call daughters. We had such wondrous plans for the future and then she was stolen from me. Friends said they could see the love we had for each other every time they looked at us. They said we were writing the greatest love story ever told. Then it was over. I am left to carry on and build something from the ashes of eternal grief. Even when I have a "good" day, it will never be as good as it was with her. I don't think I will ever have a great day again. Every achievement by my kids or myself will have sadness.

He shifted his singing to a a very high note in the middle of the song which makes it more interesting, more emotional to listen. This could be natural style of Luke. Superb!

I just saw this and before I heard his voice, I must admit, I was cringing, hoping it wouldn't be awful. 20 seconds in and: Cringing? What cringing? Beautiful for sure. I'm officially wowed.

I've always loved this song, but Luke's interpretation is incomparable. At 2:54, when he turns to face the camera, my heart just melts and I feel young again. Thank you, dear Luke, for sharing your ”eargasmic” voice with the world. Been listening to you a million times, may God bless and protect you and your loved ones. 😘🙏🤩

When my daughter was born and I held her for the first time and she looked at me I remember it like it was a second ago Later I left the hospital and was driving home and this is the song that came on the radio I do not know how I drove through the tears Luke does this so well and brings back my experience with her birth I was there and thank God for her and those experiences he sings about -feeling her hear beat for the first time , holding her close - all of it I am able to relive those moments today many evenings listening to him sing when now she is a grown professional and cannot possibly know my experience. Ha but I remember her first look into my eyes and she knew and may not remember then but that experience is part of who she is today - an amazing person helping a lot of people

A number of years ago, I saw the video of K D Lang's performance of "Hallelujah" and I wrote this about it: "No one in the USA will ever out-perform Whitney Houston's "Star Spangled Banner" and no one IN THE WORLD will ever sing "Hallelujah" better than that performance by K D Lang. " That was the last time I was really blown away by anyone...until this. I don't have a special man in my life, yet this rendition brought tears to my eyes....I could "FEEL" the song! Once again thinking that you couldn't beat the original and then, WHAM! You're an amazing talent, Mr. Evans! Now I have a special man in my world :)

He makes you feel he's singing this song directly to you its the best version of this song ive ever heard including the original ❤

I wouldn't go quite that far, Jazz... as in BEST... including 'the original'? Presumably, you're referring to the first internationally successful recording of the song, by Roberta Flack? I don't even think Luke would agree with that? The original was Ewan MacColl's, of course. BUT, and this is a biiiiiiig BUT!!! Evans sang this with more passion and class than anyone I have heard in a long, looooooong, time. And I am oooooold!!! And with technical brilliance and a vocal timbre, I was simply not expecting. That tone, you can't learn! It's natural and 'given'! Bravo, Mr. Evans! Stunning!

I just lost my wonderful, funny, and kind husband. I have played Luke’s song so many times now that I have lost count. I play it so much because it is one of the few things lately that brings me an indescribable peace and brings back a flood of memories that gets me through the rough days. Thank you Luke and everyone involved for the filming of the video and the recording of this beautiful piece of music. It truly is “the gift you gave”.
