Luke

Jesus often searched out those who were overlooked by society. He wanted to heal them and love them so He could showcase His work in them to the world. Unfortunately, His acts of love weren't always accepted. In this study, we see the response of His religious adversaries who strictly adhered to the Law of the Old Testament. We also learn that tradition can cause us to miss the most important thing: a relationship with the Lord.
This teaching is from our series 42 Luke - 2014 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.

You said, "Judas was as close as you get. He's not in heaven today." Are you saying that Jesus was a false prophet? Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." Judas was one of the twelve. Jesus said His twelve disciples will sit on twelve thrones. Judas will sit on a throne judging the twelve tribes of Israel--that's what Jesus said, and Jesus is not a liar. How do YOU know who is in heaven today? Tell me--I want your secret knowledge.

Mark, Thank you for reaching out for further clarification and guidance. Because you have asked for leadership, I want to further address the potentially sarcastic undertone in your comment about secret knowledge. May I point you to a few scriptures that speak directly to this matter itself. 1 Timothy 5:17, Hebrews 13:7 & 17, 1 Thessalonians 5:12-14, Philippians 2:3 There is no secret in the scripture about Judas and his lack of belief, nor the lack of belief in Jesus as messiah resulting in condemnation. Jesus himself says: “But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.” From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.” John 6:64-71 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” John 3:16-21 I hope this brings to light any discrepancy you may have misunderstood from the teaching and applies the necessary context to resolve any additional questions or concerns you may have. Thanks again, Guy Gemmer Ministry Intern Calvary Church

@@CalvaryABQ Thanks for your reply. There is no misunderstanding. I understand exactly what Mr. Heitzig said and what he meant. I really hope Mr. Heitzig thinks this through. The name Judas Iscariot is written in the foundation of the wall of that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God (Rev. 21:14). You seem to say that a person you say has "lack of belief" is honored to have his name written in the foundation of the holy Jerusalem while at the same time he himself is in that other place. Please think about that. Jesus said Judas will sit on a throne judging the 12 tribes of Israel (Matt. 19:28) yet Mr. Heitzig says he is not in heaven. Maybe Jesus is wrong; or maybe Mr. Heitzig is wrong. Even in your quote from John 6, Peter speaks for the 12 and says, "we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ." Judas was part of "we". Although you write about Judas' "lack of belief", no where in the Bible does it say that Judas did not believe--it seems you just made that up. Even your John 6 quote separates the group "that believed not" from the one "who should betray him." Judas was not a devil--he was a human being who had a human mother and a human father. Peter was not Satan, although Jesus called him that (Matt 16:23, Mark 8:33). Judas made mistakes, just like all believers do. When Mr. Heitzig meets Judas face to face in heaven he will owe Judas an apology. I hope this brings to light any discrepancy you may have misunderstood from the Bible and applies the necessary context to resolve any additional questions or concerns you may have.

Try reading further on in scripture, Mark, God appointed Matthias to take the place of Judas. Matthias will sit in that throne and have his name written on the wall. Not sure why you’re so full of anger and wanting to argue over such a relatively insignificant issue.
