I had just turned 18 years old when I took classes with Luigi. I am now 74. At that time he had live piano and drums in the studio so that after he taught the various combinations at the end of the classes he would ask the musicians to change tempos from jazz to Latin to waltz time, etc. so students who would be auditioning for shows would have the various experiences. My life outside his class was conventional and pedestrian; his classes were the only light in my world. I was never even close to being a good dancer, but I loved his technique and adored Luigi and taking the class.

I was in my early 20's when I took a jazz class with Luigi in NYC. I shall never forget it. I am now going to be 65 years old and still do his exercise routine. I was never close to being a good dance either, but I, too, loved his technique and will never forget him. His motto "never stop moving" is the one thing that keeps me going! ❤️

I was trained by the Luigi style with my teacher in TN.(70's and 80's) She knew him and many of our jazz technique came from his style. LOVE this video…. brings back some great memories…. …

Wow! I remember that day! That studio was the best, it was full of energy, and life. Dancers from around the world and Broadway dancing the Luigi technique. It was fun to watch this video, and see myself when I was 21 years old lol. I am and always will be taking class at Luigi's Jazz Centre, for 34 yrs. I teach for Luigi as well as teach his technique all around the world. God bless Luigi and Francis

It's Francis Roach in class! (the white shirt and featured at the end of the piece with the NY shirt). Francis teaches Luigi's class on 68th St. to this day with the Master himself in the corner. Francis is one of the most giving and supportive teachers I've had the honor of taking class from. Thank you for carrying on the tradition of this craft from person to person, generation to generation. No book or video can match the effort handing down an arts tradition.

Sooo many happy hours I spent in that old studio...and, incredibly, was able to come back and take class with the masters--Luigi and the sublime Francis--almost 30 years later! Inspired by Luigi all over again, this time as a joyful example of how to grow old fabulously. Bravo! NEVER STOP MOVING!

Thank you Marika for posting this piece. Imagine my surprise to see the old gang dancing up a storm. And of course to see myself on You Tube, what a hoot. Again thanks for the warm memories. These were good times amongst very determined and talented people.

My memory of Luigi Jazz Dance is always with his old studio on the 62nd Street of Broadway. What a nostalgic smell of the stairs that had a delicatessen in the ground floor!

I loved him but felt so, below the salt everyone one was so good! His favorite phrase at that time give me that Gene Kelly stuff! Seeing this I wish I had tried harder but I was already 20 with no real training.
