We were recently back in Vancouver, BC for a few days and since Patrick didn't travel with his cello, we recorded a few solo piano pieces that have been on our "must do" list for awhile. We've had tons of requests for this beautiful piece by Ludovico Einaudi - we hope you enjoy! Einaudi is an Italian contemporary classical composer well-known for his minimalist music and film scores. We're fans!
We recorded this at the famous Warehouse Studio (owned by Bryan Adams!) in downtown Vancouver. (Also, Patrick filmed this and hates that he moved around so much in this take...but it was MY best take so we had to use it! He wants everyone to know it's not his best work! 😂😂😂)

Brooklyn Duo Bio:
Founded in 2014, Brooklyn Duo has quickly established itself as one of today’s most successful classical crossover ensembles. Through its creative arrangements and live video performances, the piano and cello duo has garnered a huge following, with over 700,000 KZread subscribers, and over 150 million streams annually on platforms such as Spotify and Pandora Radio.
On a whim, the couple arranged and recorded two pop covers and released them on KZread. Shakira noticed the duo’s cover of her song Empire and promoted it to her 130 million-plus fan base, saying: “We're loving Brooklyn Duo's piano/cello cover of Empire! Great work guys." The boost that resulted from that exposure and the positive response they were getting on KZread encouraged the couple to continue creating videos.
Since then, Marnie and Patrick have released over 80 videos on their Brooklyn Duo KZread channel and 7 albums of covers, spanning artists from The Beatles to Metallica to Taylor Swift (who also tweeted about them, saying their cover of her song “Blank Space” sounded "like a song people should walk down the aisle to"). In 2016, the couple started a second KZread channel, Brooklyn Classical, with the goal of introducing classical music to a larger audience. With this new channel, Marnie and Patrick aim to showcase high quality, live performances of classical music. Brooklyn Classical often hosts high-profile guest artists, including the world-renowned Dover and Escher string quartets and percussionist Ivan Trevino.
In 2017, Marnie and Patrick partnered with Carnegie Hall and Ensemble Connect, a collective of some of the best young musicians in the U.S., to produce a cover of a-ha’s “Take On Me”. The video went viral and garnered millions of views in just a few months. Popular classical music stations Classic FM and WQXR regularly share Brooklyn Duo’s music on their social media pages, with Classic FM calling the duo “masters of the artfully planned pop cover.” One of their covers was also recently featured in an episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

This is the most beautiful version of this song I've ever heard. Marnie Laird is so delicate and intentional in how she plays. Gosh its just beautiful. I have listened to this version hundreds of times. It inspired me to finally start taking piano lessons in my 30's. After almost 3 years, I am FINALLY learning this song. I could cry I'm so happy.

I mean, you're without a doubt a very talented pianist, but this piece really shows off how especially your timing and sensitivity is just impeccable; it's so satisfying to watch and listen to as a fellow (FAR less talented) pianist. You motivate me!

Gott segne Dich!

Marnie , This performance is breathtaking! The Lord has blessed you with great technical skill, but the greater gift that He has blessed you with is that when you play your fingers are an extension of your heart MIke

I have tried to listen to different versions of this by different musicians but I always end up right back here because it’s simply the best version out there. And as much as I would love to see your finger work all the way through, I dig the movement and different angle that Patrick got for this video. He’s a true artist even without his cello!

I don't understand how someone would not appreciate this. You may not like the piece, but she plays the piano is a such beautiful way that is impossible not to recognise that. Congratulations.

    听过不同版本的曲子,只有这个版本最打动人。轻重缓急处理得恰到好处,非常细腻。整个情绪都被它牵动,简直无法自拔。
