Ludlum 14C Geiger Counter

Ғылым және технология

Video about a Ludlum Model 14C with a 44-7 alpha + beta + gamma sensitive pickle/end window probe and high-range internal geiger tube.
Corrections: A) The top range of this meter that uses the internal GM tube is not in 10,000 counts per minute, it's in 1,000 counts per minute. B) The Cs-137 won't emit any alphas either. I was thinking about ambient alpha emissions from NORM in the air.

I like the 44-6 probe for this

Could you make a video on how to calibrate a Geiger counter?

I actually thought about doing that but I don't have the necessary equipment and sources to calibrate the meter and properly check the probe.

I'm having issues with my 14c it's working normal on all settings with a 44-9 pancake probe, but as soon as I put on my 43-5 it's not giving much in reaction. I know my probe isnt damaged based on run time with a model 2. Do you have any idea on what could be my issue?

The big thing that comes to mind would be checking your high voltage setting.

You may need to calibrate it for the probe. The manual should tell you what you need to do.

Yes, you would need to drive the tube in increments of increasing voltage steps, count the clicks at each step the tube is generating at each step, and plot those on graph paper. The plot will inevitably show a rising click count with the increasing voltage starting at lets say 100v, a plateau where the increasing voltage is not making much difference in click count, then continuing on a rapidly increasing click count as the tube begins to be overdriven and the resulting click count "runaway" (not good). You would want to adjust the voltage on you meter to match the center of this plateau where the increasing voltage is not making much difference. I use a Model 2200 Scaler Ratemeter to do this, there may be other ways to do this. Ludlum has a nice article online on how to do this.
