11:45 - I saw a little mexican dude fish just like this, back in La Pas sometime in 1996. We went out onto this dock that was maybe six inches above the water. People were tossing shrimp to a huge school of tarpon, just like this segment. This mexican dude, maybe all of four feet tall, comes out and lays down on the dock. He takes a shrimp and holds it out over the water and, sure enough, a tarpon comes surging up to snatch it. This ballsy local just shoves his whole arm down the tarpon's open maw, grabs it by the gill (I guess) and hauls it right up onto the dock like... hey, no big deal. Removes his arm from the thing's mouth, throws the fish over his shoulder, and ambles away as nonchalant as you please. The damn fish was a good three feet or so long, and still thrashing about but that didn't phase the dude at all. Had to be the single most gung ho noodler I ever saw.

bro in 1992 i was a biologist sampling fish below bonneville. between noon and 1 pm late may during blazere vs bulls championship we saw 30 giants well over 20 feet jumping! our boat was 17 footer and they were bigger than the boat! i dont care who believes me i saw what i saw, but hey 20 foot of fish out of water and NO DORSAL FIN was the biggggest! musta been 15 more feet of fish in the water STILL! saw 30 more 10-18 or so foot too. take the boat the dodson late may mid day and come back tell me what u see. we told the office about what we saw and 6 mos later i was told they used our data to find where the sturgeon were exactly spawning lower columbia. the guides all sure knew lol but they changed the sturgeon regs right after to protect the big females. huge rush thinking 3k lbs of fish is gunna breach on u! alas no cell cams back then or id be on u tube too lol and some stories of 15 footers stuck in the dam turbines first hand were cool too! long live our sturgeon bro!

There is truly no idea just how large some of the Goliath grouper are on the Florida east coast. I have personally seen the 🐟 fish as large as 70 pounds caught and released as long 15 years ago. I can only imagine how large some of the fish are now; as they have such long lifespans.

I know for a fact that there are some off the Gulf Coast weighing in the high multiple hundreds of pounds. You’re not supposed to keep them but some folks have. I can see why after a guy fights one for hours to land them in the boat where the temptation comes from. Not endorsing it. Just understanding their reasoning. FWC will fine the crap outa you if you get caught.

Lived in FL for 7 years. We went charter fishing regularly and caught 200-400 pound goliaths every time. They're massive fish. Never had a fight last less than 3 and a half hours. Its so fun, but really tiring.
