I love Lucius for illustrating an oft-forgotten aspect of Slaanesh, whose incarnation as the Prince of Pleasure and Pain often overshadows his more subtle principles. For Slaanesh is not merely excess, no, Slaanesh is *perfection*, the perfection that can only be achieved through obsessive, monomaniacal devotion to a single passion.

Actually the first person that killed him was Nykona Sharrowkyn of the Raven Guard. Although he survived it because he felt no Pride or satisfaction in killing him. Just looked at it as if he was putting down a rabid dog. However Lucias eventually resuscitated back on the ship.

It happened specifically during Fulgrim's ritual of apotheosis to daemonhood, in which Fulgrim was 'killed' by Lord Commander Eidolon so that he could be reborn as a literal phoenix from the flames. It is explicitly stated in 'Angel Exterminatus' that Eidolon's previous return from the dead (seemingly courtesy of Fabius Bile) was to fulfil the requirements of this ritual. Lucius' own return from his first death during this ritual is surely connected in some way to the resurrections of Fulgrim and Eidolon. The novel 'Lucius: The Faultless Blade' goes so far as to describe his death at Sharrowkyn's hands *from the point of view of Slaanesh him/her/itself!* "Champions rose, and as a shining son was born anew within the cradle of the Dark Prince, it found the object of its desire. It watched as his hearts were pierced by midnight blades, and fate flew to pull him into the dark. A million denizens of oblivion waited across the veil, howling and slavering for the feast of his soulfire as the last of his life ebbed away. It moved closer, and in an instant it was there, looming over his stricken form, watching the lifeblood drain from his veins to grow cold and still. So long had it waited for this moment. The one born of lust and atrocity reached down, and smiled."

Every time I read about Lucius, I get this urge to strangle the book I'm holding.

Champions of Chaos Gods: Typhus - served the gods probably the longest amonst god specific champions, did great job with dooming his own legion Kharn - a great warrior, killcount probably bigger than some Inquisitors have, literally boarded a titan (in the HH book "Betrayer" tho Im not sure), his armor is made in a way to let his blood flow as he lets his enemies blood flow Ahriman - just like Magnus he did nothing wrong, asside from turning his legion to be vulnerable against vaccum cleaner grade weaponry, asside from that a powerfull sorcerer, probably one of the most powerfull non-demonic sorcerers Lucius - has xeno sword (pathetic), has cheats (can't lose), cuts his own face like a depressed marine, lost in a sword fight because his opponent punched him this post was made by diverse group of independ researchers counting in (local berserkers, my local drug addict who has been rotting for like 3 days now and this weird bird that has different number of tentacles every day), there is absolutely no bias against slaanesh

Then their the fact that the souls trapped in his armor actively work against him, forcing him to fight against and assert dominance over them to even control him own body.

When I read the early Horus Heresy books, I thought Lucius the most insufferable asshole, but he's friend Saul Tarvits was a boss, and to the last I hoped he would be a good guy. I didn't know the lore about him, so his betrayal at Istvan 3 was supremely evil to read.

How to beat this guy: Step 1: Get a load of servitors. (guardsmen will do as well) Step 2: Strap a dozent melta-charges onto them. Step 3: Ambush him while he's distracted. Step 4: Pet yourself on the back for a job well done. Step 5: Ask youself whether or not it is normal to be covered in screaming faces.

@Ben Siener And yet it happened, now I didnt read any novels, am kind of lore puppy not lore hound, but lucius was cut down by Phasing Sword necron swordsman which has acknowledged his own skill as fencer, and that was enough, but imo lucius is a plothole and should just jump in the sun already

Can we edit one thing in the lore? The time Lucius was beaten by a NECRON and then the necron became Lucius... Something that has no feelings, has no soul transformed into flesh and bone. I can't and will not believe it.

Last time i was this early Lucius was still part of the loyalist force on Istvaan 3 before he switched sides.

There is one who could kill Lucious , Roboute Guilliman has the Emperors Sword which gives permanent real death to greater daemons so its possible that using that sword could finish the job permanently

Possible, but not guaranteed. Though Lucius is a Chaos Marine, and thoroughly corrupted, he is no Daemon. His "curse" is not his own doing but direct intervention by Slaanesh, a miracle, which is a hole other level of power than a Daemon. Arguably his soul lies with Slaanesh for eternity, so snuffing out whatever is in his body would not kill him. Like snipping off a tree limb, the core is unreachable and would grow back.

Huh reminds me of a funny scenario when both the Game Master and another Player told me that a sword wielding chaos marine that I 'accidentally' frag bombed to death in a short one shot game a few years ago was none other that Lucius the Eternal. Other Player: "You just killed Lucius the Eternal!" Me: "Who the what now?" Game Master: "Do you know who that is?" Me: "I'm sorry but no. I will continue on with the mission. The Emperor's Will Demands It." The other two" **Uneasy Silence** Other Player: "You should feel some sense of pride. A simple Arbiter killing a Chaos Marine. Even if it was a sucker punch full of grenades and cheap luck rolls." Me: "The Job and Duty to the Imperium comes first. We can talk about pride and rewards when the Job is finished." Game Master: *Snorts and then laughs* I became confused and decided to look up the name later after game session. This becomes funnier when the fact becomes clear that I never learned of this Chaos Marine named Lucius. I was and still am a newbie to the grim dark lore of 40k, but I've been devouring as much lore as possible after learning just how close I was to becoming the next vessel of Lucious the Eternal. I should make a Tyrinand Army...

Woohoo it’s lucius thanks baldermort. when it comes to chaos I’m 100% death guard &papa nurgle but I got a special place in my heart for lucius...(also fabius&ahriman) also just finished Lucius the faultless blade book currently reading Belisarius Cawl and the great works

I actual have the model. First game I played him, he was mvp. He never did anything again and eventually he sat in my locker to not see play. Still, fun character to hate.

He is to honour that the emperors children was to perfection in 30k's earliest days . He kills for pleasure and thinks fighting with blade becomes more training for his next opponent . His scars are the quickest way to recognise him and if your the next world keep your Las rifle charged and a human version of a bolter at your side. Praise the Emperor!

I made an ungodly squeak when I saw this video. The first 40K character I ever painted was this guy, for a competition. I'm not a very good painter at all, but I put tonnes of effort in, because he's one of my faves. I got third place! Thank you for doing this video

I fielded Lucius a few times in my army of Emporers Children...he always earned his points back and did something cool...but really needs 'Vets of long war' and 'Excess Violence' stratagem to reach true perfection....

HA!!...Honestly that a very good strategy to deal with him (In game and in lore) ...Honestly...Lucius rearly survived my battles using him as well...either getting buried in Wolfen who still fight after getting killed, or shot up after he has killed an elite unit or character... I stopped using him as other HQ's options like improved Dark Apostles and Master of the Possessed appeared later in 8th Edition, who both added more tricks and buffs to my army...

He is an interesting character in how utterly arrogant and capable he is. Also, an interesting little tid bit of info for you. Lucias was slain in a duel by a Ravengaurd champion in Angel Exterminatus of the HH series. That Ravenguard felt no pride in his victory, only recognition that a wretched cur of a trator was slain. Yet, Lucias was brought back to life in the Apothecarian of Fabius Bile, but Bile had no clue how this happened. He received the dead body of Lucias and later, the Eternal had awoken. As far as I know, there is no explained reason for this. I like to think, as a deity of ego and self-aggrandisment, Slaanesh had ressurected Lucias just because it knew what entertainment he would provide it. He effectively has the immortality of a daemon prince, without the reality warping power of one, and I think he wouldn't have it any other way. What fun can be had if there is no risk of death in his duels?

That is interesting information, there is then a chance to screw him up greatly, if there ever was ballsy enough pilot he could fly with lucius in sun/black hole and, if there wasnt an azspull simmilar to when he reincarnated in factory worker who created mines and was happy with it, it could end that wretch for good

It moved closer, and in an instant it was there, looming over his stricken form, watching the lifeblood drain from his veins to grow cold and still. So long had it waited for this moment. The one born of lust and atrocity reached down, and smiled."

I can see dueling him to a stand still to capture him then put him in front of a servitor firing line. Consisting of twin plasma cannons and multi Meltas just to make sure the space aids get burned away too

Ooooo I've always liked lucius. My first dnd character was based off of him. Really cool concept and character. I'm only on mechanics of horus heresy books though so dont want to spoil too much of the story so will watch this when I've finished it....in a few years probably haha

He's the Draco Malfoy of the Horus book trilogy. Deliciously hateful and a pleasure to despise. I loved watching him descend further and further into malignant, narcissistic mania, gradually abandoning the superficial values of honor and loyalty in favor of self-satisfaction and pride. The climax of his betrayal on Ishtvaan was chilling as it was inevitable. You feel the full weight of Tarvitz's pain when he is confronted with the horrifying reality that his closest friend has become an unrepentant monster. "Who's that latest cut for, Lucius?" "It's for you... brother."

I'll quote Napoleon from Bill and Teds excellent adventure on how to deal with Lucious "blow them up."

I had fun finding a flaw in this curse in one of my games. Back in the glorious days of Mind Shackle Scarabs in the older editions, my necron overlord made Lucius kill himself. Checkmate Lucius!

I had once made a theory for a fan fiction that I have been milling over that if you gave an Astartes a powerful rage inducing combat drug basically turning him into to a berserker and he managed to kill Lucius that maybe the curse wouldn't apply once the drug wore off. It sounds plausible but given that you have a Chaos god involved plausible doesn't mean much.

@@bryanbarcelo5440 Lucius and his warband encounter the World Eaters in the novel 'Lucius: The Faultless Blade' and are mad enough to actually board the XII Legion vessel, purely in order to take the mortal crew as slaves to be rendered into drugs and interior decor. It doesn't end well for the World Eaters, although it costs the Emperor's Children dearly as well. Needless to say, Lucius comes out on top and is smug about it.

@@bryanbarcelo5440 To my knowledge there has been no documented encounter between Lucius and Khârn. Obviously they are both beloved playthings of their respective gods (though the two astartes are not necessarily entirely conscious of this), and any conflict between them would only be by ritual agreement between their masters as part of the Great Game of the gods. It would not be a casual matter.

Great character but I have to put my brain in a box when I try to comprehend how Lucius armor would grow onto his cursed assailant.

Times like these, I wish we had someone like the Emperor to bring order. (Says to self...Did I just say that?! Answer...Yes I did)

I love the Emperor's Children Legion one of more badass and Fu.k up legions.

@@baldermort Not a problem, I've been busy on more serious stuff myself (WW1). I am slowly accumulating a collection of choice quotes and other bits and pieces for you.

Lucius once stepped on a anti-tank mine and regenerated half a sector away; as the poor factory worker that built it took pride in his work. The "rules" of his regeneration is whatever amuses Slaanesh.

8:17 thing is, once Lucius died by stepping on a bunch of mines, and the random factory worker who assembled them, was turned into Lucius just because he was satisfied with having that specific job. Meaning even if you didn't know you killed him, you are not safe from the change.

would be hillarious if a ratling manages to land the killshot - i think reaching his ultimate form as the only gnome sized champion of chaos, is a joke slaneesh would be totally on board for.

After reading comments,, I didn't realize so many people hated Lucius. Well then, it's fair to say I think those same people would take a fair amount of pleasure in his defeat, wouldn't they?
