I think this is soooo sweet so I thought I'd share it. You can really see how much they care for each other. ♥

"Thank you America". My grandparents and my parents both escaped Castro's Cuba to come here and make a better life for themselves just like Desi. They didn't become huge Hollywood stars, but through hard work, they carved out a nice life for themselves. A much better life than the one they would have had in Cuba. Like Desi said, only America can give anybody from anywhere that opportunity if they are willing to work hard. It warms my heart whenever I see somebody from another country showing his/her gratitude to America and it's also a sad commentary that immigrants seem to appreciate America more than a lot of the people who were born and raised here.....including myself.
I remember seeing this clip years ago when I was young (like a teenager) and it brought tears to my eyes. I’m now in my 40s and guess what, this shirt and simple speech STILL brings tears to my eyes. It was the honest words and I just feel this kind of sentiment is missing from citizens of the US nowadays.
Desi is absolutely right. He is of my grandfather's generation, and all of the Cubans who came to this country from the 30s to the 60s always expressed this form of gratitude. Hard working people driven out of their own country and came here and did what all immigrants should, which is contribute to the general well being and success of this country's society and economy, and they weren't just doing that, they were proud to live in America. I wish more people would be as patriotic and sentimental as this when it comes to the USA, many people today are so caught up in their own life and phones and computers and Facebook and everything, they have forgotten, and in some cases don't even know bc they have not read or have not been taught, about the struggle of the people who lived before them and made this country what it is today, and who incidentally helped form the economy and the freedom that is enjoyed by those who today are constantly looking down at the phone or posting 1000 selfies of themselves. Well, that turned into some rant...bottom line, this episode of Ed Sullivan's "Toast of the Town", can be found on Lucy collection DVDs and in a few clips on KZread. Let us ALL sit down and think about this thankful man's words and realize that, with all her virtues and despite all her problems, America is the greatest country in the world, and we should strive for this kind of patriotism, non-fanatical, not overextended, but calm and appreciative. RIP Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha III.
Loved Desi Arnaz's statement. Very Moving. Loved Ed Sullivan's response.
I have always loved this moment Desi really loved this country and appreciated it he was an amazing human being and I love how Lucy is just as emotional hearing that speech and trying to see how he was...that is sweet and loving.
God bless you, Desi! The TV landscape wouldn't have been the same without you! Give Lucy (and Vivian and Bill) our love!
Omg everything about this just touches my heart-the emotion in Desi's voice and the fight to keep himself composed...Lucy looking at him with such pride and emotion. I really wish there was a bigger clip available.
Pure fookin class. 200% Gold.
Such a sweet and humble man! God bless you Lucy and Desi!
God bless America!!!

I will always and forever believe that they truly were the loves of each other's lives. Gary Morton was companionship and loyalty. Nothing against him, but, I don't think it was anything more than that. I believe Lucy and Desi are together now.
Oh my gosh this makes me bawl everytime it's so amazing to see how much they loved each other
That was so sweet.
awww bless Desi, it looked like he wanted 2 cry then Lucy looks at him with her adoring face and her expression on her face nd it looked like she wanted 2 get up nd hug nd kiss him, then at the very end she was nearly crying, now that's wot it should of been like from the very beginning 2 the very end, coz it would of been gud on there kids 2 have both their parents happy 2gether until they lost there battle of life so that they could of died known that they were goin 2 heaven 2gether xx
Thanks for posting this great moment. Desi Arnaz was very grateful to this country and loved it very much. He was not afraid to show his true emotions. He also made Lucy and even Ed Sullivan cry.
Fuckin Love him!!!!~
@sugarlipz96 Me too. I think all she wanted in that moment was to get up and hug him.
Anne! thankyou so much sweety! yes isn't this touching?! I love the beautiful look Lucy gives desi!
This is gratitude.
aw, gosh that´s so sweet!!! he´s almost in tears.... :'( very sweet indeed....thanks!
Thanks. Touching and sweet.
That speech made Desi cry b/c he wiped his face & Lucy looked like she cried. Desi looked young at that time even though he was in his late 30s at the time.
Thks for sharing Anne! Yeah, i always notice where Lucy looks over to Desi. She seems like she wanted to hug him.
i would love to see the whole entire thing of this please, so if any1 has it i would be much appreciated thank you
@FabulouslyNsync05 Exactly my thoughts.
@DoRkFiSh92 u are so right id love to hear the entire thing,... she looks to be so fussed as though she wants to cry with him yet be proud of him as well
@misswings83 i know! Im sure when he was in that bed with cancer she wanted to hug him then too! that must have been so depressing!
Was desi crying
This is so beautiful. He even made Ed cry! Is there any way you could upload the entire speech? I would love to hear the entire thing. :)
.... this could've stood on its own, without the musical accompaniment....

+rocketcab I agree with you, but that it's the end of a song with his son and daughter singing makes it meaningful. This clip is from an anniversary special that aired on TV several years ago and prior to the beginning of this clip Desi Jr. and Lucie sang a duet of the song 'Patria.' The music here is the very end of the song and you can hear their voices toward the last seconds of the video.
@TheMagicalwishes No problem
Was Desi Arnaz crying
@misswings83 yeah :/ well atleast they are together now.
@sugarlipz96 I know. That must have been the most terrible moment of her life. Losing him forever. :'( I'm sure they both in that moment on the phone wished they could have undone a lot of things.
@DoRkFiSh92 This is all there is.
