Stephen LaBerge offers techniques to use while in the state of lucid dreaming. This video is an excerpt from SAND Anthology Vol. 5:
www.scienceandn...
Dr. Stephen LaBerge is a world renowned expert on lucid dreaming. His groundbreaking research at Stanford University demonstrated the validity of lucid dreaming to the scientific world, and his books Lucid Dreaming and Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming are best sellers. Dr. LaBerge is a dynamic speaker, known for his humor and ability to stimulate thought and to make scientific concepts relevant to the individual. Through the years his research team has developed highly effective techniques, including technological aids, for building lucid dreaming skills. LaBerge also has extensive personal experience with lucid dreaming, having learned to have lucid dreams at will. He is an unabashed advocate of lucid dreaming, believing that the world would be a better place if more people developed the art.

He's mentioning Frederik Van Eeden here, a Dutch writer and researcher who developed the term Lucide Dreaming, early 1900's. He was at the forefront of scientific research regarding this matter. He determined that one of the core points of lucide dreaming are; 1) being able to direct the attention consciously within a dream 2) having access to memorie 3) ability for targeted behaviour 4) dream reality testing (as in reflecting like "this is not posible"). In normal dreaming there's no reflection on or reality testing of the content. 5) and having acces to cognitive activities like counting or reading etc Who or what is it thats dreaming? You could call it a dream-ego. Consciousness can also be aware of this sub-ego within the dream witch makes you the detached observer (see point 4).

Seth said it well "Your dreaming life is the other side of your waking life and your Waking life is the other side of your dreaming life". When go to sleep in the physical, you are waking up in the nonphysical and vice versa. Your job, our job is to integrate them completely so you will have total clarity.

I happened to attend his workshop at Stanford U. back in the summer of '99. Fascinating. I've never been able to successfully condition myself to have regular lucid dreams, even with the techniques he's prescribed though on the rare occasions I do have them, they're a real gas!

What can I say? Two things maybe. Firstly, his methods are outdated. The methods he came up with in the 70s and 80s that he published in the 90s are obsolete. They are not suitable for the over-conditioned, over-stimulated, dopamine-dependent minds of the 21st century. New methods are continually being developed. It is one's responsibility to keep up with these. If you read an old book, don't be surprised the methods don't work. Secondly, his methods worked best for him (and acceptably well for some of his contemporaries). What one must realize is that you must invent your own method, what works best for YOU. I have mine, it makes me lucid every night, but it might not work for you.

I don't know much about lucid dreams however all my life I've had premonitions that have all come to pass....One particular night I had a dream that I was at the bottom of a grave looking up and I felt as if a soul was being lifted out of it ....as I was lifting out I saw at the top a small gray coffin with white roses on it and a former girlfriend that I had no contact with in over a year and people I didn't know ...strangely it was around Thanksgiving time like now ....I saw her crying and felt her pain and then I sat up in a sweat thinking this was real ....I never really have nightmares like this .....Some weeks later I sat at my desk and said to myself ...I have to know ....but she is going to think I'm crazy .....I was compelled to call ....She answered the phone in a very small sickly voice ....Hi Brian ....I asked her if she was ok and she said she wasn't ....I told her that I had a dream about her ....she said to tell her...so I proceeded to tell her what I just wrote then when I said said a small gray coffin ...she stopped me and in her accent said Brian ,...how do you know this ? I told her it what I saw that night ....she was very frail so I didn't press her as I asked questions ....She said she didn't want to talk about it ....but she did say ...On that night a child did die and I almost died that day .....with that I said that if she needed anything I'm here for her and that I would pray for her.... My take on this is that we were still very connected and I felt and heard her extreme pain and cry out for help like an entangled particle ...as if I was her .

Absolutely spot on! Very, very true. This is the Integration Work on our Shadow, work on un-develing the devil, work on a fine differentiation of feelings, on growing the conscience which is objective and beyond any kind of morality. Also relevant in Jungian way to integration. Only those who experienced this can recognise it and understand it.

YES YES YES!!!!!. I found myself in this space that seem "empty" of everything. However I noticed that I didn't seem to have a body. It dawned on me that I was pure consciousness. I was so blissfully happy that it felt like an explosion of the heart chakra...but I had no form...I had the thought...."maybe this is what the Buddhist call Emptiness!" I seemed to be in this black Void (for lack of a better word) that was empty of every form but totally filled...with unconditional LOVE!!! I have never felt Love at this level before! I found myself traveling all over the place. It felt like I (my consciousness ) was moving very quickly....and then I began to see tiny white lights. Spirits? angels? orbs? I didn't want to return...but I did....

A meditation technique- Sit on the Earth- Lotus- close eyes- breathe- watch thought-breathe- Allow thoughts to float by like clouds moving across a still sky- breath- thoughts will tempt you to play- watch- breathe. When the dog on the curb sees the ball bounce by it gives chase and loses itself over&over&over&over&over&over again&again&again then goes to sleep is already asleep has always been. If the dog watches the ball bounce by and breathes- another more beautiful ball will bounce by and the dog watches and breathes more amazing secrets will reveal to the one who no longer wants to own but understand. The hunter must be so still for even hunger will give away their presence to their quarry- especially when it is their own reflection they hunt which will change right before the astonished eye. This is how Siddhartha found the Buddha within. a weakness of loneliness grows into the strength of total aloneness then you are everyone. What is the sound of one hand clapping?- When the observer and the ... become ... !

I had vivid lucid dreaming for 8 years. spanning from first puberty til age 22. it was accompanied by 2 times Astral projection, lucid/night terrors/sleep paralysis. a few years back, I discovered a none visual dream that lasted 15 minutes but it seemed to last for a few hours. someone spoke Latin there. I have never learned Latin. And just 3 days ago, had a recent lucid, about a upcoming rainstorm. I don't watch TV or news. it maybe a coincidence, but later that day, it started to light rain.

I make videos on how to lucid dream on this channel and my favorite way to do it is the WILD (wake initiated lucid dream) way. Meditating into the dream from the conscious awake state and witnessing all the beautiful hypnagogic colors. Also, reality checks throughout the day can help for becoming aware within an already existing dream which I just made a video on a few weeks ago :)

+ASMR Problems No I don't think so, but it does seem as if time is slower in dreams, or more condensed. As far as a "dream within a dream" yes it's possible to have one, but NOT in the capacity that was in the movie Inception. What you are referring to, or at least the real life version of "a dream within a dream" is called a false awakening. Now that I think of it, i'll do a video/article on it :)

I've yawned through three or four of these in the last fifteen minutes already. Seems to me no one who experiences them can explain it simply or coherently. But we all have 'lucid dreams' from time time, and in my experience these random type lucid dreams are a blend of fantasy, false memory and mind manipulation. Otherwise your subconscious becomes a virtual reality programme.
