This is a very informative video! This is information and techniques that most people leave out of their videos.

Thanks Richard! I know in my videos in my collection of casting videos, I don't know if I showed that step or not. I might have to go back and watch them to see if I explained it. But it is good to have step videos, if you want to call it that, to show things you should do or even not do. Thanks for the comments again.

Ryan Amber well, let’s see, I only do it when I start having issues with projectiles are not dropping out easily. Or, if I have cleaned them and stored them for a long time.

Clean, lube and smoke them prior to each use. Use wood matches to smoke them.

Thank you - I've been searching for a while for a straightforward video on this subject. This is much clearer than the video from Lee even. I notice you seem to store your molds with a pour in there - any reason for that? Also, when smoking out the cavity - what do you think about doing that with the mold closed? that way wouldn't get any carbon on the seating surface?

Thanks for the comments. The molds that still have a pour in them are steel molds and that is to keep them from rusting. The aluminum LEE molds you do not have to do that. As for smoking the molds with the mold closed you could do that, the reason most do it with them open is so they can verify they are getting the entire cavity covered. But you could smoke them with it closed, then open and check to make sure it is completely covered. Remember with the lube groove you want to make sure you have it covered with carbon as well. This is to help the mold to release the projectile.
