Luangwa - River of Life part 1 Kaingo

Фильм және анимация

The South Luangwa Park in Zambia is one of Africa's top wildlife watching locations. By late September the river is the main source of water and the means of life. The animals come from far and wide to drink and to look for food. The variety is staggering and this video, part 1 of the story, located near Kaingo camp on the west bank of the river, tells the story of life and death in this most beautiful place.

Thanks for viewing the video. You are right it was dramatic and very sad. The vet tried his best but despite the antibiotics he gave him his body just gave out.

Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the video, apart from the water!! The video was taken late in September when water levels are at their lowest, even the Luangwa is reduced to pools rather than being a river. So the availability of water inland is a gift as the camp tops it up frequently. Its also a safer place from predators, although they also use it of course. The colour is not great but it is still clean enough for the animals. If you want dirty water have you seen my clip of the Hippo fight. They have the delightful habit of defecating to mark their territory. The hide the camp build each year is very close so it pays to keep your head down!!

I could not agree more about Giraffes. They are quite beautiful but treat them with great care, they have a very effective kick. Thanks for watching the video.

Thank you very much for such a nice comment. I’m very glad you liked the video. The Luangwa is such a beautiful place but it’s the wildlife that drew us back for a second time. Derek Shenton runs an excellent camp and also has a live cam at his bush camp which is well worth looking at when the season starts again.

Superb. We share a lot of favourite places - Tafika, Cheekoko Bush Camp, Etosha, Bots etc. Trying to work out how to communicate without going through this medium,as would love to compare notes on some other places you have or might have been.

It is a programme that I have had for something called Magix. There have been various version but I am currently called Magix Edit Pro MX plus. There is a new version out now but what I like is that they build on rather than replace older versions. They are backwards compatible too. It more versatile than some of "easy option" programmes.

Jesus! That last stand of Ringo was tragic. I've only seen one other video of a male lion fighting to his last breath against a buffalo. I wonder if he was just ravaged by disease, or just a starving nomad and not quite all there? The punishment he took, and still not backing down was extraordinary and awful to watch.

Yes I am afraid that he was so badly injured the vets could not save him. We found him next day. It’s a sad story but as they say it is the circle of life. Thanks for watching.

Hi Jessica. I only know of three prides, Numbu, Mwamba-Kaingo and Hollywoods though I have not been there for a while now but they do have a very good web site full of great photos and information. Until a few days ago they had two web cams giving live views which I found quite addictive. The camp is now closed for the season but I hope they will be live again next spring. Many thanks for watching the video.
